This is the second time it was extended this year.

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has once again extended the validity of car registrations. Vehicles with plates ending in 8 now have until October 31, 2022 to renew.

Student permits, driver’s licenses, and conductor’s licenses expiring in August 2022 and September 2022 were also given extended validities until October 31, 2022. These announcements, of course, are valid nationwide.

In the case of car registrations, it comes after the previous announcement back in August wherein the registrations of cars with plates ending in 8, 9, and 0, had until the end of September, October, and November respectively.

So as per the latest update, cars with plates ending in 8 have been given an additional month. Those ending in 9 and 0 though, are yet to be given a second validity extension.

As with the previous extensions rolled out prior, surcharges and penalties will not be collected unless a particular car’s registration validity has lapsed beyond the stated extension deadlines.

The reason behind these recent extensions, at least according to the LTO, is to help curb the recent rise of COVID-19 cases in the country. Besides the continuing pandemic, it also said that it was decided upon to consider those who were affected by typhoon Karding which we all know recently rampaged in multiple regions in Luzon.

Hopefully, the extension provides ample time for folks to renew their registrations and licenses

In the case of the medical certificates that are required for the renewal of driver’s licenses. Those that have expired by August 2022 and September 2022 were also given an extension until October 31, 2022. This will provide ample time for those getting their licenses renewed, and one can imagine that it would save them a bit of money as well.

Are you one of the folks who are taking advantage of the aforementioned validity extensions of car registration or licenses? Do you reckon that the extension is enough?
