Piaggio Philippines has just expanded its model line with more configurations of the APE and a new mini truck called the Porter 1000.

Piaggio, the Italian motor vehicle manufacturer some of you might not know, produces not only scooter and motorcycles but also other interesting vehicles as well.

Recently, Autoitalia Philippines, the only distributor of Piaggio vehicles in the Philippines has decided to increase their product line with several new vehicles like the Ape three-wheeler and even a mini-truck.

The brand might not be that recognizable here in the country, but it is the intention of Autoitalia Philippines to gain a larger following in the country as well as to continue the Piaggio ethos of designing and building economical cargo vehicles for the up and coming entrepreneur.

It is also notable that their current APE three-wheeled vehicle has enjoyed years and years of continuous popularity in its home country and as such it would be deemed that Filipinos too would greatly benefit from what the APE and what many other Piaggio vehicles can offer.

1. Piaggio APE

The APE is a small three-wheel light commercial vehicle which is based on the Vespa Scooter platform that has been around since the end of World War 2. Initially built by the Vespa inventor himself, Corradino D’Ascanio to help Italy’s economy during the after-war dregs.

The APE since then has become very popular especially in Europe and has existed in countless variations worldwide such as vans, pickups, passenger rickshaw and of course as a private or even family vehicle.

As for the APE available here in the Philippines, it is powered by the world’s smallest production diesel engine; a 435 cc single cylinder that has an impressively economic mileage of 36km/L within tight and crowded city streets. Besides from being very economical to run and maintain, the APE is Euro 4 compliant and it can carry up to 600 kilograms.

The Piaggio APE is a solid utility vehicle despite its three-wheeled configuration

The APE is also available in many configurations like a 3-wing van, closed van, long deck, passenger and many others.  For those who want to carry around people, the APE Auto DX priced at Php 218,000 has enough seats for 4 people plus a driver.

For those who are in need of an economical vehicle that can haul cargo, there’s the APE Xtra LDX priced at Php 248,000. The LDX has a 3 sided drop down cargo deck capable of up to 500 kilograms.

For those of you who want a little bit more customizability though, you can also check out the Php 218,000 APE Auto DAC which comes with a 5x5 feet flatbed. Or you can use it as it is as a cargo vehicle.

As of now, the Porter 1000 is priced at about Php 489,000 as such it is a very affordable vehicle which is placed to compete against the likes of the Suzuki Carry.
