Lamborghini announced that it is discontinuing the Aventador after 11 years of embodying what the brand is capable of achieving in the high-performance scene.

The final edition of the Lamborghini Aventador

To celebrate the outgoing flagship model’s run in the industry, the Italian automaker produced its last pure naturally-aspirated V12 with the Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae Roadster in special light blue Ad Personam color. The final edition is slated to be delivered in the Swiss market, marking the end of an era.

“The Lamborghini Aventador was a game-changer at its launch, and the flagship Lamborghini model for 11 years of production,” said Automobili Lamborghini Chairman and CEO Stephan Winkelmann. “The V12 engine has been part of Lamborghini’s heritage since the company’s earliest days.”

The end of the automaker's pure NA V12 era

Debuted at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show as the Aventador LP 700-4, the V12-powered sports car had eight variants in its lifetime, with 11,465 cars delivered to customers nationwide. The top-ranging variant is the 780-4 Ultimae, which, as the moniker suggests, can churn out 780 horsepower via its permanent all-wheel-drive (AWD) system.

With the said number of units produced, Lamborghini has sold more Aventador than the sum of all its previous V12 models. Some of these include the Countach, Diablo, and Murcielago. In addition, the nameplate won several accolades, appeared in films and video games, and delighted enthusiasts with its extraordinary performance and design.

“The Aventador captured Lamborghini’s competencies in design and engineering when it debuted in 2011, with Lamborghini values that are always at the center of [the] company and product impetus: pure, futuristic design; benchmarking performance; and addressing technical challenges with innovation to produce the most emotive, class-leading super sports car,” added Winkelmann.

11 years, eight model derivatives

The replacement for the Lamborghini Aventador is still unknown. But we can expect to see a non-turbocharged hybrid power unit for the sports car’s successor now that the automaker has invested billions in electrification. While waiting for an official announcement, the Lamborghini Sian is our glimpse into the brand’s lineup in the future.
