The Women’s World Car of the Year (WWCOTY) is now in its 12th year. It takes pride as the only jury in the automotive industry comprised exclusively of women. Last year, the Land Rover Defender claimed the title as the WWCOTY.
All-new Kia Sportage
A team of 56 motoring journalists from 40 countries spanning five continents has named the category winners that will compete for this year’s WWCOTY Best Car of the Year crown. The 2022 WWCOTY had a total of 65 contenders, which are vehicles launched between January 1 and December 2021.
The vehicles were pitted by the WWCOTY jurors across six categories with the all-new Kia Sportage claiming the Best Family SUV accolade. Other category winners in this year’s awards are the following:
- Best Urban Model: Peugeot 308
- Best Large Car: Ford Mustang Mach-E
- Best Large SUV: BMW iX
- Best Performance Car: Audi e-Tron GT Quattro
- Best 4x4: Jeep Wrangler
Category winners 2022 Women's World Car of the Year
The all-new Kia Sportage, as well as the other category winners, will enter another round of evaluation from the jurors to settle which vehicle will take home the 2022 WWCOTY Best Car of the Year award. The result is expected to be announced on March 8, coinciding with International Women's Day.
The Sportage is now on its fifth generation that features a heavily revamped styling inside and out. It made its global debut last June 2021, and has yet to be confirmed as to when it will arrive in the local market. However, Kia Philippines said during the launch of the all-new Carnival that it will be introducing two new additional models this year.

Kia PH president Manny Aligada didn’t confirm what the upcoming models could be. But, there’s a good chance that the all-new Sportage is among those vehicles that we could expect to arrive in the Philippines this year. Another possible model that Kia PH could bring in this 2022 is the updated Picanto. Of note, these are just speculations, and Kia PH has yet to announce the upcoming new models.

The Kia Sportage 2023 Philippines is a 5-seater compact crossover that is competing in the local market in its fourth-generation version. It is still unclear as to when will the fifth-gen arrive on our shores. In the local market, its sole available variant is the GT-line, which is priced at Php 1,820,000. Under the hood, the Sportage GT-Line uses a 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine good for 182 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. The said engine is then an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
In terms of dimensions, the Sportage is 4,480 mm long, 1,855 mm wide, and 1,655 mm. It also comes with a wheelbase and ground clearance rated at 2,670 mm and 172 mm, respectively. In the local market, the Korean compact crossover goes up against the likes of the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, and Subaru Forester.
