Kia EV6 beats Tesla’s fast-charging Guinness world record

Who says charging EVs takes forever?

Up until the very present, many folks still hold the opinion that electric vehicles (EV) still cannot beat the range and convenience that a traditional internal combustion engine vehicle provides. Lately however, the automotive industry has made strides in EV technology, and the latest marque to flex their muscles in this market is Kia.

The Kia EV6 crossover

Recently, the Korean brand managed to grab the Guinness World Record for the shortest charging time to cross the United States in an EV. They did this by using the new Kia EV6 model, which traveled for 4,635.7 km (2,880.5 miles) from New York to Los Angeles.

The best part of this is that it was only plugged in for 7 hours 10 minutes and 1 second. This crushes the previous record which was held by Tesla at 12 hours 48 minutes and 19 seconds. So essentially, the Tesla was plugged in for five and a half more than the EV6.

By gaining this world record, the EV6 proves itself as a potent road trip mobile

As for the car itself, the Kia EV6 is a five-seater all-wheel-drive compact crossover propelled by two electric motors. The said motors are fed by a 58-kWh battery or a 77.4 kWh lithium-ion battery depending on the trim. Kia USA didn’t specify as to which variant of the EV6 achieved the world record, but we reckon that it’s the one with the larger battery pack.

At the maximum, the most powerful version of the EV6, which is the GT Long Range variant, can produce up to 577 horsepower. The standard range models can produce 232 horsepower, while the rear-wheel-drive only long-range version can make 225 horsepower. The least powerful variant of the EV6 is the GT-Line Standard RWD variant, and it can churn out 168 horsepower.

You can also use the EV6 as some sort of mobile power bank. Neat.

Besides its impressive horsepower outputs, the Kia EV6 is also filled to the brim with safety technologies like highway driving assist, blind-spot monitoring, a 360-degree view camera, automatic parking assist, among others.
