Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC) announces a Special Service Campaign for 2,273 recorded units of its passenger car lineup, the D-Max and mu-X.

The recall is intended to mend the second shaft bolt in the said models, which is said to have been tightened below the specified torque value. With that being said, the bolt could come loose over time, posing a safety risk to owners.

Out of the 2,273 recorded units, 1,579 units belong to the Isuzu mu-X, with the rest of the 694 units for the D-max. The production period of the units covered in the Special Service Campaign runs from 2020 to October 2022.

Concerned vehicle owners will receive a notification letter, saying that their Isuzu vehicle with a specific Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is included in the recall. They must present this letter on the day of their visit to the dealer.

Individuals who don’t own any of the concerned Isuzu vehicles anymore are requested to contact the company so it can update its mailing list.

Like all recalls, IPC’s Special Service Campaign will be free of charge. The estimated time of inspection will take approximately less than two hours. But the company noted that additional time may be necessary, depending on the dealer's work schedule.

“Given the road conditions in the Philippines, it [second steering shaft bolt] may possibly loosen over time. With this, IPC has taken the initiative of implementing this service campaign to inspect and re-tighten to meet the required torque value as a precautionary measure,” said IPC in a letter to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

The Special Service Campaign doesn’t cover the updated D-Max and mu-X models recently introduced last month.

While the two Isuzu passenger vehicles predominantly received styling updates, the mu-X is now equipped with a smart tailgate, allowing owners to open the tailgate automatically without the need to reach for the car key. For the 2023 models, the vehicles also get new color options.
