GAC Motor Philippines is offering the local market a wide array of vehicles from the GA4 sedan to the 7-seater GN6 MPV to reach more customers. Now, the Chinese automaker is looking to further expand its lineup with the unveiling of the GAC EMPOW55.
Revealed at the 2022 Manila International Auto Show, the GAC EMPOW55 is a sports sedan that will be marketed to young car buyers who are looking for a spirited driving experience. It is equipped with advanced technologies that passengers will surely enjoy on the go.
Exterior-wise, the GAC EMPOW55 is the first model to use the car brand’s GPMA (Global Platform Modular Architecture) platform. It spans 4,850 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width, and 1,432 mm in height, with a wheelbase and ground clearance rated at 2,736 mm and 119 mm, respectively.
The Mecha grille adds sporty aesthetics to the front end of the sedan. It comes with double-sided blade air curtains that improve engine cooling and ventilation. Other features that add sportiness to the exterior include a 4-exhaust setup with an on/off switch for the sound, slim LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, and sleek LED taillights.
It gets sporty aesthetics from the front to the back
In terms of in-car tech, the sports sedan is equipped with the ADiGO 3.0 Smart Driving System, a feature that intelligently assists drivers on the road. When the system detects that the passengers are smoking, the windows open and the airconditioning system adjusts. It lowers the volume when the co-pilot is talking on the phone.
Depending on the driver’s preference, the seats can automatically adjust thanks to the system’s facial recognition. To enhance the ambiance, the cabin is installed with 32-color ambient lighting that synchronizes with the playing music, as well as a full glass roof.
Under the hood, the sports sedan uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that is capable of generating 175 horsepower and 270 Nm of torque. The engine is connected to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) which provides fast gear shifting. In a zero to 100 km/h run, the vehicle does it in 6.95 seconds.
See the sports sedan sometime in 2023
Take note, GAC Motor Philippines mentioned that the said specifications may still vary once the PH-spec GAC EMPOW55 has been officially added to the local lineup. It will be launched alongside the 2nd-generation GS8 Hybrid in 2023. Upon its Philippine debut, the sports sedan will go up against the likes of the MG 6 and Honda Civic.
