In-car screens are becoming larger and more advanced than ever before to the point that video streaming is being introduced. But over at BMW, the German automaker is taking a different approach with the teasing of a new head-up display at the 2023 CES in Las Vegas.

The new system appears to take a simpler approach when displaying information to the driver with its thin glass located on the end of the dashboard. Looking at the teaser image, the head-up display is capable of providing information on speed, music, time, and navigation. As of this writing, BMW has yet to reveal more details about the system.

But with this type of approach, the German automaker believes that it will be safer for the occupants as large screens can be a distraction on the go. Plus, considering the increasing features of infotainment systems in today’s cars, the focus of drivers could be diverted away from the road.

During the presentation of the new head-up display at the annual tech show, the system is said to make its debut in “Neue Klasse” models arriving in 2025. The first models expected to be launched under the aforementioned platform are replacements for the BMW 3 Series and X3.

Apart from the new head-up display, the next-gen electric BMW models could offer a range of 1,000 km, as well as a 48 km recharge for every minute they are plugged in. The automaker provided a glimpse into the brand’s new electric vehicle (EV) architecture with the i Vision Dee concept revealed at the same tech show.

“It is more than a vision. We bring this innovation into the “Neue Klasse.” As early as 2025 – the year after next – our customers will be able to experience this completely new technology in their vehicles,” said Oliver Zipse, chairman of the board of the BMW Group.
