All-new Honda Civic Type R leaked ahead of launch

The all-new Honda Civic Type R is itching to make its global debut after a series of track tests to optimize its performance. While the design is still under camouflage since the hot hatch was first announced, it seems like Honda unintentionally leaked the model’s front quarter shot on its Japan website.

Leaked next-gen Honda Civic Type R

In a post on the Civic11Forum website shared by a user named Palmer8, the next-gen Civic Type R appears to build on the more low-profile aesthetics of the Civic sedan. Although, the model comes with exclusive sportier design elements that should complement its performance department.

Exterior-wise, the front end features a more aggressive take than its sedan sibling, coming with a blacked-out honeycomb grille, red Honda logo, and the ducts on each side to help cool the brakes finished in red. We should also expect to see the Type R badge on the grille even though it is not shown in the leaked photo.

The side profile is highlighted by the gloss black wheels which appear to be similar as compared to the ones fitted in the camouflaged Civic Type R seen during its testings. It hosts the two character lines, one of which runs all the way to the rear end where the blacked spoiler is affixed.

It will be out in its sixth-gen form

Under the hood, no details have been revealed as of this writing. But we can expect to see the same 2.0-liter turbocharged VTEC engine with tweaks to improve the performance. It is also likely to be offered with an automatic transmission, which would be a first for the nameplate.

Don’t miss the next-gen Honda Civic Type R’s world premiere happening on July 21. It will coincide with the brand’s celebration of the Civic’s 25th anniversary of wearing the Type R badge. This year also marks the compact sedan’s golden anniversary, which is now on its 11th generation model.
