After a series of teasers and previews, Honda will finally debut the all-new 2023 Civic Type R via a world premiere this month.

The arrival of the next-gen Honda hot hatch represents the 25 years of the model wearing the Type R badge. It was first introduced in 1997 and is based on the sixth-gen Honda Civic sedan. In addition, the Civic nameplate is celebrating its 50th anniversary, reflecting how the nameplate is thriving throughout the years.
While the Japanese marque remains mum about the specifications of the upcoming Civic Type R, reports suggest that it will be using the same 2.0-liter turbocharged VTEC engine as the outgoing model. But the power unit is expected to come with a few tweaks, along with weight reduction and increased body rigidity.
Honda showcased the all-new model’s improved performance, with the car setting a new record at the Suzuka Circuit, besting the previous lap time logged by the 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition. A 6-speed automatic gearbox is expected to be offered for the first time along with the standard 6-speed manual, which should expand the hot hatch’s reach in the market.
The latest iteration definitely shows a lot of promise
In our previous report, the colors have been leaked via a Twitter post which was later deleted. Blue, Red, Black, White, and Grey are the leaked exterior colors, while the interior appears to show a two-tone black and red combination finish. This means that the appealing Phoenix Yellow Civic Type R could be a thing of the past.
Catch the official unveiling of the all-new 2023 Honda Civic Type R on July 21, 2022. It will be showcased ahead of its arrival in Europe in early 2021. Meanwhile, Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. The 2023 Honda Civic Type R is a high-performance, compact, five-seater, front-wheel-drive liftback. In the Philippine market, it carries a standard retail price of Php 3,880,000.
Under the hood of the Civic Type R is a 2.0-liter inline-4 gasoline turbocharged engine that can make up to 316 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque. The said engine is then paired with a six-speed manual gearbox with rev-matching.
Size-wise, the latest version of the Civic Type R is 4,593mm long, 1,890mm wide, and 1,407mm in height. It also has a wheelbase length of 2,735mm, and a ground clearance of 123mm.
Locally, the Honda Civic Type R competes against the Subaru WRX, Dodge Charger, Lexus ES, BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz CLA, among others.
