Without further ado, we have listed down five full-size SUVs you can consider when shopping for one in the market. Take note, we have only listed down those that come with a ladder frame chassis and models from non-premium car brands.

1. Toyota Land Cruiser Prado

Based on the 150 Series of the long-time running Land Cruiser, the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado may be smaller in size as compared to the other range, but it is still classified true full-size SUV. Dimensions-wise, the latest Toyota Land Cruiser is 275mm longer, 95mm wider, and 55mm higher than the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado.

Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) is offering two Land Cruiser Prado variants for you to buy. The base variant starts at Php 3,419,000 which uses a 4.0-liter 1GR-FE V6 gasoline engine that makes 271 hp and 381 Nm of torque. It goes up to Php 4,220,000 for the upper variant that is powered by a 2.8-liter 1GD-FTV inline-4 turbodiesel with 201 hp and 500 Nm of torque. The latter engine is also used by the Toyota Fortuner midsize SUV.

Toyota Land Cruiser Prado

The Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is a 7-seater full-size SUV. Toyota Prado price Philippines starts at ₱3,630,000 for the entry-level 4.0 4x4 AT (Gasoline), while the top-of-the-line Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 2.8 4x4 AT (Diesel) is priced at ₱4,442,000 Only two variants are available in the local market – one gasoline and one diesel variant.

With the entry-level gas variant, the SUV gets a 4.0-liter 1GR-FE V6 that makes 271 hp and 381 Nm of torque. As for the diesel variant, a 2.8-liter 1GD-FTV turbodiesel engine is used which is the same engine used by other Toyota models such as the Toyota Fortuner. It is capable of generating 201 hp and 500 Nm of torque. Both variants come with a 6-speed automatic transmission with sequential shift as standard.

In terms of dimensions, this Japanese SUV has a length of 4,840 mm, a width of 1,885 mm, and a height of 1,890 mm. Additionally, it has a ground clearance and wheelbase rated at 215 mm and 2,790 mm, respectively. The Land Cruiser Prado is competing against the likes of the Nissan Patrol and Ford Expedition in the Philippine market.

2. Nissan Patrol Royale

The Nissan Patrol Royale is one of the longest-running nameplates in the history of the Japanese automaker’s lineup. With this, you can expect Nissan’s expertise in manufacturing full-size SUVs with this model. It comes with a price tag of Php 3,988,000 for the variant that uses a 5.6-liter V8 engine, sending power to all four wheels via a 7-speed auto gearbox.

If you are considering getting this full-size SUV, you might want to keep in mind that there is already a reworked Patrol for its sixth-gen model. As of this writing, Nissan Philippines didn’t release a word on whether it will arrive in the country. 3. Ford Expedition

Next up on the list is one of the most popular full-size SUVs in the local market, the Ford Expedition. It is the larger SUV option than the Ford Everest midsize SUV in Blue Oval company’s Philippine lineup. The Ford Expedition offers a luxurious car ownership experience both inside and out.

Ford Philippines is offering its full-size SUV with a starting price of Php 4,612,000 for the Limited EL variant. It is powered by a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 gasoline engine that is capable of generating 375 hp and 637 Nm of torque. Add Php 133,000 and you can avail of the bucket seat option for a more comfortable and bolstered ride.

Ford Expedition

The Ford Expedition 2023 Philippines is a full-SUV, seven-seater SUV. For the Philippine market, it has two variants. These are the Expedition 3.5 V6 Limited Max, and the Expedition Limited Max w/ Bucket seats. Currently, these are available at Php 4,479,000 and Php 4,612,000 respectively. 

Under the hood of the Philippine-spec Expedition is a 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine capable of producing up to 375 horsepower and 637 Nm of torque. The said model then uses a 4x4 drivetrain, and 10-speed automatic gearbox w/ paddle shifters. 

Size-wise, the Expedition is 5,539mm long, 2,388mm wide, and 1,956mm in height. It also has a wheelbase length of 3,353mm, and a ground clearance of 249mm. 

Locally, this full-size Ford model competes against the Toyota Land Cruiser, Nissan Patrol, and Chevrolet Suburban.

4. Chevrolet Suburban

American automaker Chevrolet is known for its rugged SUVs thanks to its collaboration with General Motors Company (GM). One of its renowned models is the Chevrolet Suburban. The 2023 Chevrolet Suburban is an 8-seater full-size SUV that is now in its all-new 12th-generation form in the Philippines. It is available locally in two variants with a price that ranges from Php 5,351,888 to Php 7,460,888. Under the hood, the vehicle uses a 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 gasoline engine with 355 horsepower and 518 Nm of torque. As standard, the engine sends power to all four wheels (Auto 4WD with Selectable Drive Modes) via a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Dimensions-wise, the Suburban is 5,733 mm long, 2,060 mm wide, and 1,923 mm high, with a wheelbase rated at 3,406. In the local market, this American full-size SUV goes up against the likes of the Toyota Land Cruiser and Nissan Patrol.
