Intro
Everyone has a tendency for penny-pinching. And sometimes, this human characteristic will activate in some people even when shopping for cars. So this begs the question: what are the most affordable sedans and hatchbacks in the Philippine market right now?
Who says affordable and small cars can't be handsome?
Well to answer that, we are listing 10 affordable sedan and hatchback models with a price range that sits below Php 750,000. Sure, there are specific models with variants with a sub Php 750k price tag, but this list will trim down your shortlist if what you’re looking for is the most affordable.
Of note, most of these are five-seaters, even the smaller ones. Also, all of them are front-wheel-drive and gasoline-powered. So, without further ado, here’s the list.
Suzuki S-Presso
Kicking off this list is the cheapest Japanese-branded car model in the Philippines today. It’s the Suzuki S-Presso, and while it is classed as a city car, it looks a bit like a mini-SUV due to its body shape.
This charming little car has a ground clearance of 180mm
Serving as a replacement for the Alto, the S-Presso likewise is tiny. Despite that, it can provide ample space for five occupants, and it even comes standard with a seven-inch touchscreen headunit. It also has dual-front airbags and anti-lock braking (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD).
Powering the tiny S-Presso is a 1.0-liter inline-3 engine that can make up to 67 horsepower and 90 Nm of torque. Only a five-speed manual transmission is available for this Suzuki city car.
Its sole variant in the Philippine market is the S-Press GL, which is priced at Php 523,000.
JAC J4
The first sedan on this list is the JAC J4. It is made by a Chinese brand, and it is classed as a subcompact sedan. In the Philippine market, the J4’s price ranges from Php 670,000 to Php 720,000.

But despite that low price range, this model offers some niceties to its users. These include leather seats, a tilt and telescopic steering column, manual air-conditioning, and a 2-DIN audio unit.
Under the hood of the J4 is a 1.5-liter inline-4 gasoline engine that can produce up to 111 horsepower and 146 Nm of torque. It is then paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), or a five-speed manual gearbox.
Safety-wise, the J4 is equipped with two airbags, ABS with EBD, among others.
Changan Alsvin
Next up is the Changan Alsvin. Like the J4, this model is also made by a Chinese brand. For the Philippine market, its price ranges from Php 579,000 to Php 679,000.
An affordable sedan with an elegant exterior design
While affordable, the Alsvin has a lot of features. The top-spec model for instance gets a seven-inch headunit, a reverse camera with parking sensors, and cruise control. It also comes with two airbags, stability control, as well as ABS with EBD.
The sole engine option for this model is a 1.5-liter gasoline engine that can generate up to 106 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque. It either gets a five-speed dual-clutch gearbox, or a five-speed manual transmission.
Toyota Wigo
Another city car hatch on this list is the ever-popular Toyota Wigo. It just received a facelift in 2020, and the top-spec TRD S variant is notable for having an angular, sporty-looking face.

This car can do great for in-city driving
For power, the Spark uses a 1.4-liter inline-4 gasoline mill. At maximum, this engine can make up to 98 horsepower and 128 Nm of torque. Depending on the variant, it either gets a five-speed manual gearbox or a CVT.

Included creature comforts on the Spark also includes a seven-inch headunit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a manual air-conditioning system, among others.
Suzuki Celerio
Another car from the Japanese small car specialist is the Suzuki Celerio. It slots in a higher price range than the S-Presso, but it is still affordable with its Php 558,000 to Php 628,000 price range.
The S-Presso's slightly larger older sibling
For engines, the Celerio uses a 1.0-liter inline-3 gasoline mill. It can churn out up to 67 horsepower and 90 Nm of torque. The said engine is then linked to a five-speed manual tranny or a CVT.
Moving on to tech and safety features, this Suzuki is kitted out with a seven-inch touchscreen headunit, parking sensors, dual front airbags, and ABS with EBD.
Honda Brio
Sitting as the most affordable model in Honda Cars Philippines’ lineup is the Brio. Like its rivals, it is a city car, and it assumes the form of a five-seater hatch. And while its starting price sits a bit higher at Php 601,000, its top-spec model remains affordable at Php 735,000.
The Brio can also come with a two-tone paint scheme in the form of the RS Black-top variant
And despite being affordable, the Honda Brio is one of the few models in the city car market segment that comes with an inline-4 engine. Specifically, it uses a 1.2-liter four-banger that can generate up to 89 horsepower and 110 Nm of torque. It then uses a five-speed manual gearbox or a CVT.
Inside, the Brio keeps it simple with fabric seats, and a manual air-conditioning system. The high trims also come with a seven-inch touchscreen, and power-folding side mirrors. Safety-wise, all come standard with dual front airbags, as well as ABS and EBD. The top-spec RS and the mid-spec Brio V also have speed-sensing door locks.
Suzuki Dzire
Based on the more expensive Swift is the Suzuki Dzire. Or rather, it is the sedan version of the Swift hatchback. It is, however, more affordable than the other model whilst offering a separate trunk.
The Dzire received some updates earlier this year
Under the hood of the Dzire is a 1.2-liter gasoline engine that can make up to 82 horsepower and 113 Nm of torque. The top-spec trim uses a five-speed auto gear shift transmission, while the other two uses a five-speed manual gearbox.

Toyota Vios
While we’ve said in the intro that we’re only including cars with a price range below Php 750,000, we’ll have to mention the Toyota Vios. This is because some of the more popular models of this Toyota sedan are priced below the said limit.
Sure, there are other sedans with a sub-Php 750,000 variant, but the Vios deserves a special mention as it is one of the most popular sedans in the Philippines. Specifically, we’re talking about the Vios Base variant and the Vios J, which come with a price of Php 681,000 and Php 707,000 respectively.
