So, by now, many of you know that the 2022 Honda BR-V 7-seater model is larger compared to the old one. But how does the upcoming Honda model compare against other popular 7-seater MPVs in the local market?

To find out, we’re comparing the Honda BR-V's dimensions against the Toyota Avanza, Toyota Innova, Suzuki Ertiga, and Mitsubishi Xpander.

2022 Honda BR-V: Summary of specs

Before comparing it to other models, let us first give you a short rundown of the 2022 Honda BR-V's specs. For dimensions, the Indonesia-spec BR-V's top-spec Prestige Type and E Type trims have a length of 4,490mm, a width of 1,780mm, and a height of 1,685mm. The entry-level S Type has the same length and width, but it is shorter with its 1,651mm height.

The new BR-V for the Indonesian market also has a ground clearance of 220mm, and a wheelbase length of 2,700mm.

For power, it uses a 1.5-liter inline-4 gasoline engine capable of making up to 119 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque. The said engine is then paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), or a six-speed manual gearbox depending on the variant.

2022 Honda BR-V vs Toyota Avanza: Dimensions

Compared to the 2022 Toyota Avanza, the Indonesia-spec Honda BR-V is much larger and wider. That’s because the new Philippine-spec Avanza is 4,395mm long, 1,730mm wide, and 1,700mm in height. Then again, the Avanza comes with a longer wheelbase measuring 2,750mm.

The top-spec Avanza G also has a ground clearance of 190mm. That’s 10mm less compared to the new BR-V. The E and J trims even have less ground clearance at 180mm.

2022 Honda BR-V vs Suzuki Ertiga: Dimensions

If compared in terms of size, the Indonesian BR-V is also significantly larger than the Suzuki Ertiga. This is due to the fact that the Ertiga is only 4,395mm long. That’s a 95mm difference in favor of the Honda model.

The Ertiga is also narrower with a width of 1,735mm. The Suzuki model though is slightly taller with its 1,690mm height. It also has a longer wheelbase at 2,740mm. The Ertiga also has 180mm of ground clearance, which is 40mm less compared to the new BR-V.

2022 Honda BR-V vs Mitsubishi Xpander: Dimensions

The new Philippine-spec Mitsubishi Xpander is clearly longer, wider, and taller than the Indonesian BR-V. That’s because it comes with a length of 4,595mm, a width of 1,750mm, and a height of 1,750mm.

It also has more ground clearance at 225mm, and it also has a significantly longer wheelbase at 2,775mm.

2022 Honda BR-V vs Toyota Innova: Dimensions

The Toyota Innova is not a direct competitor to the BR-V. That’s because, unlike the BR-V, it comes with a ladder frame chassis, a diesel engine, and a rear-wheel-drive layout. That said though, some of the Innova’s lower-spec to mid-spec variants might overlap the BR-V in terms of pricing. Both are also considered as family MPVs options.

The Toyota Innova

That said, the Innova is much larger with its length of 4,735mm. It is also wider at 1,830mm, and taller at 1,795mm. It also has a longer 2,750mm wheelbase, though it offers less ground clearance at 178mm.

Why compare dimensions?

Dimensions are important for cars, especially seven-seater MPVs, as it might dictate the available amount of legroom and elbow room a particular model has to offer.

Furthermore, people with limited garage spaces might also need to consider the size of the vehicle they’re getting.

In the context of the Philippine market and maybe even other markets in the ASEAN region, ground clearance is also important for some buyers since not all roads we have to drive through are smooth and paved.
