Mercedes-Benz SLC 180 premieres in UK with price tag from £32,039 (₱2,072,910)

Mercedes has confirmed that the SLC 180 is now on sale, priced from £32,039 (₱2,072,910).

This new entry-level of Mercedes is expected to undercut the Mazda MX-5 RF on monthly finance payments.

The SLC 180 is powered by a small 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, delivering 154hp and 249Nm of torque, paired with a manual six-speed transmission. Accordingly, the car is able to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h within 7.9 seconds before reaching a maximum speed of 225 km/h.

Though this makes the car 0.6 seconds slower from 0-100 km/h than the 2.0-litre-engined MX-5 RF, it offers better fuel efficiency, with 48.7mpg to the MX-5 RF’s 47.1mpg, and lower CO2 emissions, outputting 134g/km to the RF’s 161g/km.

It is the smaller engine and the manual transmission that make the SLC 180 the lightest model in the SLC range with a weight of 1,435kg. Like other models in SLC “family”, the SLC 180 also gets the eye-catching AMG Line flavor and many exterior’s updates like 17-inch alloy wheels.

The vehicle is now available with a price ranging from £32,039 (₱2,072,910), £2,681(₱173,459) less than the SLC 200.

Although the price is £8,644 (₱559,263) more than the MX-5 RF, a Mercedes spokesman strengthened that the SLC would have lower monthly prices because of its better residual values which makes the car cheaper on a Personal Contract Purchase (PCP) deal.
