Facelifted Hyundai Accent 2020 gets previewed with India’s Verna

Images of the updated 2020 Hyundai Verna surfaced, known in the Philippines as the Hyundai Accent.

The facelifted Hyundai Accent 2020, also known as the Verna in the Indian market, has been previewed.

Although details are in the form of teaser images, we can already spot some key changes from the current model that’s currently on sale in the Philippines.

Upfront, the new Accent now more closely resembles the 2021 Elantra. The larger hexagonal grille teeming with chrome is flanked by a pair of new LED headlamps. Down below is a front redesigned lower bumper accompanied by an aluminum lip spoiler.

The profile and roofline are still carried over from the existing model, although the updated Accent gets a new set of alloy wheels.

The taillights have also been redesigned, with a revised rear bumper complemented by a faux diffuser. You might also notice that the update also includes longer reflectors.

Refreshed outside, refreshed inside

We don’t have many details as far as the interior is concerned. But Indian automotive sources speculate that the revised model will be getting a larger, eight-inch touchscreen head unit partnered with a new audio setup. Wireless charging will also be offered for compatible phones.

New engine options

The updated Accent also receives a new set of engines. There’s a 1.0-liter turbocharged gasoline powerplant that makes 118 horsepower and 172 Nm of torque, and a 1.5 normally aspirated engine that generates 113 horses and 144 Nm of pull.

There’s also a 1.5-liter diesel mill capable of 113 hp and 250 Nm of torque.

Transmission options include manual and automatic transmissions both with six forward gears, as well as a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

Hyundai Accent

The Hyundai Accent is the Korean marque's entry to the competitive subcompact sedan category. It is available in six variants and the Hyundai Accent 2023 Philippines price that ranges from Php 790,000 to Php 1,038,000. Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. (HARI) offers this model with two engine options consisting of gasoline and diesel mills. Lower-end variants use a 1.4-liter Kappa MPI Dual CVVT gasoline engine that makes 99 hp and 132 Nm of torque, while higher-end variants are equipped with a 1.6-liter CRDi turbodiesel engine that delivers 126 hp and 260 Nm of torque. As for the transmission, the engines can be connected to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Moving to the dimensions, the Accent spans 4,440 mm in length, 1,729 mm in width, and 1,460 mm in height, with a wheelbase rated at 2,600 mm. In the Philippines, this Korean sedan is competing against the likes of the Toyota Vios, Honda City, and Nissan Almera
