The Subaru Crosstrek, formerly known as the XV, is the third-generation iteration of the subcompact crossover. With the Wilderness package, the new variant receives off-road-focused enhancements including tweaks in the design to make the vehicle more rugged.

Exterior

To make the Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness off-ready, the ground clearance has been increased by 15mm from the base model’s 220mm ride height. The approach angle has also been added by two degrees from 18 degrees, while the departure angle gets a 0.8-degree increase from 24.6 degrees.

The exterior is fitted with new front and rear bumpers, a bold hexagonal grille, larger wheel fenders, a metal front skid plate, unique hex-design LED fog lights, and an anti-glare hood decal in matte-black. It is also equipped with 17-inch matte-black alloy wheels in Geolandar all-terrain tires.

Interior

Moving into the cabin, the new Crosstrek Wilderness is made off-road readier with the water-resistant Subaru StarTex seats. This material allows passengers to hop into the vehicle even after a long trek in the woods. Also found in the seats is the Subaru Wilderness logo, which is embossed on the front headrests.

The cargo area also gets a water-resistant rear cargo tray, protecting the load floor from wet and muddy gear. Other interior bits include bold copper-colored contrast stitching accents, anodized copper-finish accents on the shifter, gauge meter rings, and leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a Wilderness-themed meter display at start-up.

Tech & Safety

The Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness comes standard with the brand’s Starlink 11.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, which supports wireless connectivity of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It is also available with over-the-air updates so the system can evolve over time.

In the safety department, the off-road-focused crossover is equipped with the Subaru EyeSight technology. It provides various advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) functions such as Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Detection, and Pre-Collision Braking.

Engine & Powertrain

Powering the Crosstrek Wilderness is a 2.5-liter boxer-4 engine capable of delivering 182 horsepower and 238 Nm of torque. It sends power to all four wheels via a retuned Lineartronic CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission). The 4.111 final drive ratio, from 3.700, improves the vehicle’s climbing and grip performance, according to Subaru.

The brand’s driver-selectable dual-function X-Mode is also installed in the new variant, offering Snow, Dirt and Deep Snow, and Mud modes. This system further improves the crossover’s off-road performance by maximizing traction in varying road conditions.

Price

Subaru is offering the Crosstrek Wilderness at a starting price of $31,995 (or around Php 1.742 million) in the United States. It is made available with a $2,270 option (Php 123,589) that adds a power moonroof, power driver seat, and Harman Kardon amplifier and speakers.

With the fascinating off-road enhancements, it would be great to see the Crosstrek Wilderness run on Philippine soil. But that could take some time to unfold as Subaru Philippines is still offering the second-generation Crosstrek or XV. As of this writing, the company remains mum about possibly launching the next-gen version.
