Quezon Ave zipper lane implemented during morning rush hours

It is seen to help ease traffic on the Elliptical road.

Just as they did for Commonwealth Avenue, the Quezon City Government, together with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and the Department of Transportation (DOTr) will be setting up a zipper lane for Quezon Avenue.

The zipper lane might help ease traffic on Quezon Avenue, and on the Elliptical road

The zipper lane for Quezon Avenue is said to have started today, December 5, 2022. It will serve to remedy the traffic on the Elliptical Road, and Quezon Avenue itself. The zipper lane is active from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. during weekdays on the westbound portion of the road. That timeframe is within what is considered as morning rush hours.

There are two things to note about this story though. On the Quezon City Government Facebook page, it says that the zipper lane is currently on a dry run. Contrary to that, there is no mention of whether this is an actual implementation or a dry run on the DOTr’s official Facebook page.

The DOTr did state that it will be using the zipper lane’s implementation to gather data regarding traffic flow on Elliptical Road and Quezon Avenue. It will then use this data in the future, for a more effective public transport infrastructure arrangement, which in turn might help alleviate the woes currently experienced by all road users passing through the area, especially in the morning.

In both reports, it was stated that the zipper lane begins in front of the Lung Center. It then follows the length of Quezon Avenue to EDSA underpass, and it then terminates at the U-turn slot in front of the Providence Hospital.

As we’ve mentioned above, the Quezon City Government has already implemented a zipper lane on Commonwealth Avenue. Currently, it now stretches from the St. Peter U-turn slot entrance, to UP Technohub or make a turn going inside University Avenue.

Just like the former, the new zipper lane on Quezon Avenue will be manned by traffic enforcers. Signages will also be placed in key points.
