With the recent opening of School Year 2022-2023, it is expected that more motorists will be plying major roads like Commonwealth Avenue. So to ensure better flow of traffic, the Quezon City Government together with the Metro Manila Metropolitan Development Authority (MMDA) has recently announced the expansion of the Commonwealth-University Avenue Zipper Lane.

Starting August 30, 2022 (Tuesday), motorists can now enter the zipper lane at the St. Peter U-Turn slot entrance. One can also exit the zipper lane when heading to the Quezon Memorial Circle at the UP TechnoHub Zipper Lane Exit.
To make sure that this runs smoothly, traffic enforcers from the Quezon City Task Force for Transport and Traffic Management will be deployed in key areas. Traffic signages will be placed in clear view also on key points.
According to the Quezon City Government, the said extension is necessary due to the current traffic caused by the ongoing construction of the structures making up MRT7.
This is especially true with the traffic flow bottleneck at the Tandang Sora intersection where a nearby station is being built. The same goes for the area where the Don Antonio station is currently being constructed.

The Commonwealth-University Avenue Zipper Lane is open from Monday to Friday, from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Authorities in charge of the implementation of this are also urging motorists to cooperate and follow the directions of enforces, and to be alert for road signages.
For the MRT7 project itself, the government is targeting a partial opening by December 2022. Full operational capacity will then be achieved by around 2024 to 2025. Before that, the said line will be undergoing demonstration runs to ensure safety and reliability.
So until the MRT7 construction is finished, motorists plying Commonwealth will have to be patient in dealing with the additional traffic.
