Considering that the COVID-19 cases are declining, the quarantine restrictions in the National Capital Region (NCR) are lightened. The government lowered the Alert Level 4 to Alert Level 3, while the Metro Manila Council (MMC) shortened the curfew hours in the said region from 12 midnight to 4:00 a.m.
The zipper lane will help alleviate traffic along Commonwealth
With that in mind, more motorists are expected to use the road especially now that DOTR-accredited Staycation hotels in NCR are now allowed to operate. To alleviate bad traffic conditions, the Quezon City Government released an advisory regarding the opening of the Commonwealth-University Avenue Zipper Lane.
The Quezon City Government opened the Commonwealth-University Avenue Zipper Lane in response to the heavy flow of traffic along Commonwealth Avenue to PHILCOA and Elliptical Road. This is done in partnership with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and EEI Corporation.
To refrain motorists from traversing heavy traffic in PHILCOA and Elliptical Road, the Commonwealth-University Zipper Lane is opened to provide a by-pass road starting at UP-Techno Hub via a u-turn slot.
Be advised of the route
It allows a counterflow road opposite of those motorists who are traveling from Elliptical Road to Fairview. This will be beneficial for those who are driving to areas including the University of the Philippines (UP), C.P. Garcia Avenue, and Katipunan Avenue.
Last October 16 and 17, the Quezon City Government has already started the dry run of the Commonwealth-University Avenue Zipper Lane. And now, the zipper is opened to the motoring public from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Mondays to Fridays, until further notice.
The Quezon City Government noted that the Traffic Enforcers of the Quezon City Task Force on Transport and Traffic Management are manning the Commonwealth-University Avenue Zipper Lane to ensure a smoother traffic flow. It also encouraged those who will use the zipper lane to follow the traffic enforcers and road safety signages in the area to avoid inconvenience.
