The DOTr is working with the Quezon City (QC) local government for the said new traffic scheme on Elliptical Road, which will be implemented starting November 12, 2022. The designated PUV lanes are located on the last three outer lanes.

The DOTr is advising all PUVs to strictly use the designated lanes even when the new traffic scheme is still at the dry-run stage.

Private vehicles are not allowed to drive through the three designated PUV lanes. Motorists driving their private cars are only allowed to cross the designated PUV lanes to enter or exit junctions and driveways.

Aside from the designated PUV lanes, the DOTr and the QC government will launch the improved PUV stops in front of the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) and Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP). The transport agency is urging commuters to use the improved PUV stops, which are meant to improve overall road safety

The DOTr explained that the two new schemes along Elliptical Road are intended to improve traffic flow, especially during peak hours. It also aims to prioritize and improve public transport by keeping PUVs separated from private vehicles.

The DOTr added that it will look into the traffic flow along Elliptical Road during the duration of the dry-run stage. The DOTr and the QC government will then study the possible effects of its permanent implementation. However, the agency has not given a timeline as to how long will the dry-run period will be.

The new traffic scheme along Elliptical Road is a joint project of the DOTr and the QC local government.
