A couple of days ahead of this year’s All Saint’s Day and All Souls’ Day, the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Corporation announced that it will be implementing additional traffic management measures on its thoroughfares. This is because the company estimates a 10 percent traffic volume increase for Undas 2022.
If you're travelling up north this weekend, be aware that you'll be seeing traffic
To put that into perspective, the said increase is on top of the average daily traffic volume on NLEX Corporation’s expressways. According to the company, NLEX sees 278,000 motorists a day while Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) sees 71,000 daily.
As mentioned before, the company will put in place measures for Undas 2022 to address the increased traffic volume. This is a part of NLEX Corporation’s “Safe Trip Mo Sagot Ko” program, which is now in its 13th year.
Over 1,000 patrol crews, traffic marshals, incident response teams, and toll lane personnel will be deployed during the long weekend on NLEX, as well as on the SCTEX. Additional toll both employees, emergency medical services, and a towing service will be rolled out as well.
NLEX Corporation further added that it will be monitoring toll booth plazas that were identified as “high volume” areas. So from October 28 to November 2, Balintawak, Mindanao, Karuhatan, Valenzuela, Meycauayan, Marilao, Bocaue, Sta. Rita, San Simon, San Fernando, Clark South, Tarlac, Tip, and Subic Freeport Expressway (SFEX) will be heavily monitored.
Hopefully, the additional traffic management measures will be enough for this year's Undas
Besides the aforementioned measures, the company also stated that it will be placing more road safety signs as well as directional signs. Likewise, construction works and lane closures will also see temporary suspensions during the course of Undas 2022.
The one exception to the temporary stoppage of construction works and lane closures involves the vital repair works at the Candaba Viaduct. In this case, only two southbound lanes will remain open. The leftmost lane meanwhile, is reserved for trucks. Class 3 vehicles will be restricted from traveling over the said Viaduct from November 1 to 2, 2022.
To avoid travel delays and the likelihood of being stuck in traffic, NLEX Corp. has suggested that those traveling should avoid peak hours. They are also encouraging more motorists to finally make the switch to RFID cashless toll payments.
