The Suzuki XL7 2020: What does it have to offer our market?

Updated Apr 15, 2021 | Same topic: Automotive Industry Updates

Suzuki is jumping on the mini SUV train with their latest offering for the Philippine market. Let's take a sneak peek at the new 2020 Suzuki XL7.

The Suzuki XL7 2020 offers three variants in its home market of India. However, only the top-spec trim will make it to the Philippines. While being late to the party, Suzuki is still poised to challenge its rivals at their own game.

2020 Suzuki XL7 Philippines: Specs, Features, and Pricing Overview

Suzuki XL7 2020: Slick design

The new MPV builds on the Ertiga MPV's aesthetics and platform, albeit with athletic touches. The fascia is sharper and edgier, emphasized by the larger grille with the chrome bar running across the gaping expanse of black, and flanked by full LED headlights with daytime running lights. Out back, the XL7 retains the Ertiga's L-shaped taillights.

Inside, the XL7 presents a spacious cabin with generous headroom and legroom. Integrated A/C vents along the dashboard make for a clean and minimalist look. Meanwhile, third row seating is probably best left to small children (or skinnier adults). Most importantly, the second row can accommodate three occupants abreast, differentiating the XL7 from the near-identical XL6 which features a pair of captain's chairs on the second row.

That dashboard is surely a thing of beauty

The XL7 boasts a 200mm ground clearance, 20mm more than the Suzuki Ertiga’s, and rides on a set of 15-inch alloys which look a bit small when set against the MPV's extra body cladding.

Suzuki XL7 2020: Engine

The XL7 shares the same 1.5L engine with the Ertiga

The XL7 is powered by the same 1.5L K15B gasoline powerplant found under the Ertiga's hood, delivering 103 hp and 138 Nm of torque, mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission which delivers the power to the front wheels.

Suzuki XL7 2020: Conclusion

The XL7 looks like another serious contender in the crossover MPV wars, joining the upcoming Mitsubishi Xpander Cross in a field that's been dominated by the Toyota Rush for quite some time now. Combining functionality with relative sportiness and style, this category is is proof that driving family members need not be a chore. The XL7's purported PhP1.068 million asking price also presents an attractive proposition for families in search of a premium MPV experience without the premium price tag.
