All-new Suzuki Celerio, facelifted Swift arriving Q1 2022: Report

Updated Jan 13, 2022 | Same topic: Automotive Industry Updates

The two hatchbacks form Suzuki PH’s opening salvo for 2022.

Fans of compact cars can expect at least two new offerings from Suzuki Auto Philippines for 2022, as the automaker is set to bring two new models to bolster its local small car lineup.

2022 Suzuki Celerio

The all-new Celerio is an upgrade in all respects over its predecessor.

According to an Inquirer report, one of these is the third generation of its Celerio small hatchback, launched November last year by Maruti Suzuki in India. Underpinned by the fifth generation of Suzuki’s Heartect platform, it gets upsized dimensions all around compared to the outgoing model, with a relatively more streamlined stance.

It sports a new grille flanked by wraparound halogen headlamps, with auto-folding side mirrors now included on the cleaner profile. Up to five occupants will appreciate the enlarged and updated interior that offers 313 liters of space for cargo. Onboard entertainment comprises a 7-inch infotainment screen that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

A next-generation K10C 3-cylinder gasoline engine makes its debut on the new Celerio, rated at 66 horsepower and 89 Nm of torque. A segment-first Idle Start-Stop technology improves fuel efficiency by up to 23 percent compared to the previous Celerio. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and Auto Gear Shift, the latter being already in use on some of Suzuki’s overseas models.

A revised pair of headlamps accompanies the Swift's updated grille

The second model coming to our shores is the refreshed Swift subcompact hatchback, replacing the slats on the grille with a honeycomb pattern accompanied by a prominent chrome accent. Revamped headlamps now incorporate LED daytime running lights.

For the interior, amenities such as automatic climate control, engine push start and keyless entry will reportedly be standard across the lineup. Higher trims will continue to have the 8-inch touchscreen head unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto available, and all variants are expected to be powered by the same 1.2-liter K12M engine making 82 horsepower and 113 nm of torque mated to either a 5-speed manual or CVT.

The 2022 Suzuki Celerio should be having a local launch by March 2022 at the latest, while the refreshed Suzuki Swift is expected to arrive much earlier. Stand by for eventual updates on pricing and other details for these two models only at Philkotse.com.

Suzuki Swift Launch

The Suzuki Swift was released on June 28, 2018, together with the Suzuki Dzire. The revamped model got more curves, letting go of its previous boxy build. This helps Suzuki make its entry to the local market more competitive as other rivals such as the Toyota Wigo come with great hatchback styling.

Suzuki offers the hatchback in the Philippines with one variant only, namely the GL 1.2 CVT priced at Php 844,000.
