The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is continuously building roads to give Bulacan-bound motorists faster and more convenient travel. The DPWH wants to fast track the road expansion project

The agency is determined to fast-track the road expansion works to accommodate the increasing number of vehicles using the Plaridel bypass road. DPWH Undersecretary Emil Sadain said that the road expansion project will help alleviate traffic caused by the steady growth in the number of vehicles including heavy trucks.

The DPWH’s road expansion project features increasing the number of lanes from two to four, which is said to align with the Plaridel bypass road. The DPWH added that the arterial road alignment traversed five municipalities of Bulacan, which includes Balagtas, Guiguinto, Plaridel, Bustos, and San Rafael.

The first 2.2-kilometer section of the arterial road was completed in the first quarter of 2021. The two additional lanes on the said section intend to alleviate the slow traffic movement due to the volume of vehicles. This section of the bypass road connects the North Luzon Expressway in Barangay Burol, Balagtas with Daang Maharlika Highway in Barangay Maasim, San Rafael.

As of this writing, the DPWH is working on Phase 4 or the Contract Package 4 of the road expansion project, which will be from Bustos to San Rafael. The said section (Bustos-San Rafael) is eyed to be completed by January 2023.

The road expansion from Bustos to San Rafael will involve the construction of two additional lanes that spans 7.38 km. It will also have a 36.86-meter single span pre-stressed concrete deck girder bridge, seven at-grade intersections, and a 318.55-meter flyover.

Previously, the DPWH said that the widening of the Plaridel bypass road will benefit about 15,000 motorists per day by giving them faster and more convenient travel.
