The new 2023 Nissan Terra Sport is scheduled to be launched for the Philippine market on February 25, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. The new Terra variant’s debut will then be live-streamed on Nissan Philippine’s official Facebook and YouTube pages.

The upcoming Nissan Terra Sport

So what’s so special about this upcoming Nissan Terra trim? From what we can see from the teaser picture, the door handles, grille, side mirrors, front foglamp housing, and wheels are colored in black. All-in-all, this provides the Terra with a more intimidating look.

This thus contrasts with the other Terra trims which get a chrome finish for the parts mentioned above. The upcoming 2023 Terra Sport instead mirrors the VL update that was launched in 2021 for the pre-facelifted Terra which received black-colored exterior bits as well.

Nissan is yet to disclose the engine and drivetrain combo that will come on the Terra Sport. For your reference, all available Terra variants use a 2.5-liter turbodiesel engine which is capable of making up to 187 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque.

Depending on the variant, the engine is then paired to a seven-speed automatic gearbox or a six-speed manual transmission. Only the VL 4x4 top-spec trim gets a 4x4 drivetrain. The rest meanwhile, uses a 4x2 drivetrain.

If we had to speculate how the upcoming Terra Sport trim will be specced, then it is likely that it will share the same features and mechanicals as the VL 4x2 AT. Then again, do take this with a healthy grain of salt.

Pricing details are likewise yet to be released by Nissan Philippines. Then again, we won’t be surprised if it will have a slightly higher asking price than the regular Terra VL 4x2 AT

The Philippine-spec Terra exclusively uses a 2.5-liter inline-4 turbodiesel engine for all of its trims. At maximum, this engine can churn out 187 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque. Only the VL and Sport have a 4x4 version, while the rest are rear-wheel-drive. In turn, only the entry-level Terra EL can come with a six-speed manual gearbox. The rest of the Terran trims then utilize a seven-speed automatic transmission.

Size-wise, the Nissan Terra has a length of 4,900mm, a width of 1,865mm, and a height of 1,865mm. It also has a wheelbase length of 2,850mm, as well as a ground clearance of 225mm.

Locally, the 2024 Nissan Terra competes against the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Montero Sport, Isuzu mu-X, Ford Everest, Maxus D90 among others.

Nissan Terra Launch

Globally, the Nissan Terra was unveiled in April 2018 at the Beijing International Automotive Exhibition, Terra being a Latin term for Earth. It was introduced as a replacement for the Nissan Pathfinder, which was available from 2005 to 2012, and sits in between the X-Trail and Patrol in terms of size and dimensions.

Locally, the Nissan SUV was launched in May 2018. In some markets such as the Middle East, the midsize SUV is offered with a 2.5-liter gasoline powertrain, while Nissan Philippines only offers a diesel powertrain.

In 2021, the Terra then received an updated model for the Philippines market. This update provides the Terra with a new front fascia, a redesigned rear end, and more on-board tech.

This was then followed up by the Terra Sport trim in 2023.

Nissan Terra Exterior

As of 2021, Nissan Philippines released the all-new Terra. It comes with a good deal of exterior design enhancements. For the front, it gets a new Nissan V-Motion grille pattern, a pair of new quad-LEDs with auto-leveling function, new LED taillamps, and a set of new 18-inch alloy wheels.

Nissan Terra Interior

The latest version of the Nissan Terra’s spacious cabin features a spacious interior that can seat up to seven adult occupants. Its higher-spec variants are equipped with leather upholstery on Zero-gravity seats. Likewise, the new steering wheel is also clad in leather. Other surfaces on the top-spec Terra, like its dashboard, also have loads of soft-touch surfaces.

As for the second-row seats, they slide and are split into 60:40. It also offers a tip-up entry which means passengers can easily access the seats on the last row. The reclinable third row can be split into 50:50, providing more space for cargo storage at the back.

Technology & Safety Features

Providing entertainment is a new nine-inch screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Also, a new feature is wireless charging. Moreover, the 2024 Nissan Terra also comes with Nissan Intelligent Mobility which offers intelligent around-view monitors and an off-road information display.

Of course, the one-touch remote for tumbling and folding of seats and a roof-mounted monitor with an HDMI port located at the ceiling are also retained. Higher variants are equipped with audible lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and automatic headlights. Safety is further expanded with the presence of six airbags, and a tire-pressure monitor, among others.

Platform & Chassis

As an updated version of the current generation model, this robust SUV still uses the Nissan F-Alpha platform. It guarantees a pleasant ride in the city, whilst providing the strength and flexibility for off-road use. That said, the suspension system for the new Terra retains the independent double wishbone with coil springs and a stabilizer bar for the front. The rear end meanwhile, is equipped with a multi-link suspension and a stabilizer bar. Braking is supported by discs at the front and drums at the rear. The parking brake for the VL trims however is now electronic.

Engine & Drivetrain

Like the previous iteration of the Nissan Terra 2024, all of its variants are powered by the 2.5-liter YD25 DDTi inline-4 turbodiesel engine. At most, it is capable of generating 187 hp at 3,600 rpm and 450 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm. The engine is coupled to a 6-speed manual transmission for the entry-level EL variant, and 7-speed automatic transmission with a manual mode for the rest of the variants.

Likewise, with the outgoing Terra, only the top-ranging VL variant gets a 4WD system that comes with a transfer select switch for seamlessly changing drivetrain configurations. It comes with a 2WD rear-wheel drive mode, a 4WD high gear for high-speed off-roading, and a 4WD low gear for driving through steep and rough roads smoothly.

Locally, the 2024 Nissan Terra has a total of six color options. These include Nebula Metallic Red, Forged Metallic Copper, Lunar Metallic Gray, Galaxy Black, Brilliant Silver, and Aspen Pearl White.

In terms of power, the 2024 Nissan Terra sits in the middle of the locally available midsize SUV pack. Like its truck-based rivals though, it also uses a ladder-frame chassis so one can say that its durability and off-road capability are assured as well. As for on-board features and safety tech, it now sits high up on the totem pole due to the fact that most of its trims now come with driver assist features.
