It is said to increase in size as well.

Now that alleged patent images of the next-gen Honda CR-V have surfaced, it is inevitable to see unofficial renders, especially considering how significant the said model is in the market. Kolesa.ru gave a preview of what the fifth-gen CR-V might look like based on the patent images.

Right off the bat, the most noticeable difference is the new headlights, providing a sleeker appeal as compared to the previous one. It does look familiar as most of Honda’s new crossover/SUV models adopt the same design principle. Both the new versions of the Honda BR-V and HR-V already portrayed the said concept.

The body of the compact crossover appears to be slightly larger, which could translate to more cabin room. Since the relatively new Honda HR-V got a size increase, the new CR-V is expected to be enlarged as well. If it comes to pass, this will further emphasize the nameplate’s reputation as an ideal family car.

Patent images reveal nothing but the layouts and shapes of an upcoming car. This means that we can’t get an idea as to what features we can expect. However, the next-gen version should come with the latest suite of Honda Safety Sensing as part of the car brand’s campaign of eliminating traffic collision fatalities by 2050.

This is the same case for what lies under the hood. Reports suggest that the current engine options will be retained, with plans of adding a hybrid powertrain. In the local market, the PH-spec version comes in either a 1.6-liter turbodiesel engine or a 2.0-liter i-VTEC gasoline engine for the base variant.

The launch date of the next-gen Honda CR-V has yet to be announced by the Japanese marque. One can expect that the new model will be arriving sometime this year. That said, it would be interesting to see whether the sleeker appearance of the unofficial render will be embodied or not.

Honda CR-V

The 2024 Honda CR-V is a midsize crossover SUV. For the Philippine market, it has three variants: the V Turbo CVT, VX Turbo CVT, and the RS e:HEV (hybrid) e-CVT.

The latest version of this Honda model has two different engine options. For the top-spec hybrid trim, it uses a 2.0-liter gasoline four-banger paired with a dual motor and lithium-ion battery. The combustion component alone produces up to 145 horsepower and 183 Nm of torque. The electric-powered component meanwhile, can churn out 181 horsepower and 335 Nm of torque.

Aboard the V and VX trims meanwhile is a 1.5-liter inline-4 engine that can churn out 187 horsepower and 240 Nm of torque.

Only the VX gets all-wheel-drive, while the rest are front-wheel-drive. All trims then use a continuously variable transmission (CVT), but the one on the hybrid trim is an electronic CVT (e-CVT).

In terms of dimensions, the all-new CR-V is 4,691mm long, 1,866mm wide, and 1,681mm (1,691mm for VX) in height. Both the hybrid and the V’s wheelbase then spans 2,701mm (2,700mm for VX).

Locally, the Honda CR-V competes against the likes of the Mazda CX-9, Cherry Tiggo 8 Pro, Kia Sorento, Hyundai Santa Fe, Peugeot 5008, etc.
