The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is improving the lives of Filipinos who use motorcycles and bicycles with the launching of a dedicated repair station in EDSA.
New repair station in EDSA
Located at the ground level of the Quezon Avenue flyover, the new repair station is equipped with basic repair and vulcanizing tools. It is also manned by trained MMDA personnel to assist the concerned commuters whenever they need to get their vehicles fixed.
“The thrust of this project is to provide free space and assistance in cases where emergency repairs are needed rather than towing the vehicles, outright. The only time the vehicle will be towed is when it is beyond repair,” said MMDA Chairman Attorney Romando Artes during the launch.
It aims to improve the lives of cyclists
The new repair station will go hand-in-hand with the government’s Metro Manila Bike Lane project which spans 313 km long. There are currently two repair stations in EDSA, and another in Roxas Boulevard. Now that cyclists can benefit from the newly-launched facility, more Filipinos should be encouraged to use the bike lanes amid the rising fuel prices.
Moreover, the repair station can promote eco-friendly mobility alternatives, which is important as many car brands such as Nissan are starting to shift to electrification. Cyclists are advised to practice road safety measures, while motorcycle riders are warned not to enter bike lanes as the No Contact Apprehension policy stands.
“This will surely make the rider community happy since they now have a place to go to in case they need emergency repairs,” said Congressman-elect Bonifacio Bosita of 1Rider Partylist.
More repair stations are bound to be opened
The MMDA announced that it is looking to launch more repair stations in different strategic locations all over Metro Manila, with plans to expand the project to also cater to four-wheel vehicles. Take note, the repair stations are open only from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
