All-new Mitsubishi Triton mid-cycle update already planned: Report

Mitsubishi is reportedly already planning a mid-cycle update for the next-gen Triton, which has just made its debut last July 2023.

Car Expert reported that Mitsubishi’s chief product specialist Yoshiki Masuda wants the next update for the Triton to offer rear disc brakes instead of drum brakes. He also discussed with the Australian media about integrating a fully digital instrument cluster into the pickup truck.

Masuda-san explained the use of rear disc brakes would better complement the pickup’s advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), including its auto parking technology. Moreover, discs provide better braking performance than drums.

Most of the segment rivals in the local midsize pickup truck market like the Toyota Hilux come with rear drum brakes, with the GWM Cannon using solid discs as standard.

The Mitsubishi executive also hinted that the all-new Triton could be getting a fully digital instrument cluster in time for the truck’s mid-cycle refresh, which follows suit to what Ford did with the next-gen Ranger.

“For now, we have a [7.0-inch] LCD meter… you know, maybe at some point at an upgrade, we have a full LCD [digital instrument cluster],” said Masuda-san.

Considering the next-gen Triton is only in its first year, we could likely see the mid-cycle update in three to five years. We could also expect to see minor cosmetic changes along with the planned disc brakes and fully digital instrument cluster.

It should take years before we get to see the mid-cycle update

For now, we await the next-gen Mitsubishi Triton’s Philippine launch scheduled in January next year. The upcoming PH-spec model will drop the Strada name in favor of Triton.

The 2024 Triton is expected to arrive with rear drum brakes and a seven-inch LCD multi-information display with analog gauges, as well as a nine-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a new 2.4-liter turbodiesel 4N16 engine that makes up to 201 horsepower and 470 Nm of torque.
