Many people are quite fond of the original Volkswagen Beetle. This is true to the point that German company Milivié has recently announced that it is making the Milivié 1, a modern take on the classic Beetle which even runs on an air-cooled powertrain just like its inspiration.
The Milivié 1
Limited to just 22 units, the Milivié 1, as we’ve said, takes direct inspiration from the old Beetle that was initially rolled out all the way back in 1938. It is limited to 22 units, as a nod to the original model’s 22 million total units sold.
As a modern take on the classic design though, it incorporates a more aerodynamic body shape. It also takes into consideration the design elements of numerous old Porsche models. That of course is fitting since Porsche and Volkswagen do have an intertwined history.
For instance, it comes with the rear fenders from the Porsche 956, the exhaust tips from the 935, and so on and so forth. The donor car for the Milivié 1 itself though, is the classic 1303 Beetle Model. The said car also incorporates LED lighting all around, and it rides on a set of 19-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, the interior is likewise a retro-modern affair. The curves and shapes found in its interior are still reminiscent of the old model, but like the exterior, there are plenty of modern touches.
For instance, it comes with wireless smartphone charging, two 12.3-inch screens, a total of nine audio speakers, a climate control system, etc. All four of its seats are heated bucket-type seats which are made using a carbon fiber honeycomb structure.
The Milivié 1 from the side
Under the hood of the Milivié 1 is a 2.3-liter flat-four engine. Interestingly, this mill uses carburetors, and its block is based on the original Type 1 Beetle’s own flat-four. The said engine is then paired with a ZF 4HP four-speed automatic gearbox sending power to the car’s rear wheels. For now, the German company is yet to share the Milivié 1’s output figures.
Price-wise, the Milivié 1 starts at €570,000, which is around Php 32.5 million at current exchange rates, and so it’s not exactly affordable like the original “People’s car.” Deliveries for the Milivié 1 will then start in 2023.
