Mazda PH concludes Miata Spec Series second round

The company is now prepping for the third round scheduled on Oct. 29.

The Round 2 of the Manila Sports Car Club (MSCC) Miata Spec Series held at the Clark International Speedway (CIS) is now in the books.

Mazda Philippines successfully concluded the second round of the Miata Spec Series 

Allan Uy, racing in Car No. 99, dominated the race track as he was crowned the overall winner for the round’s two races (Race 3 and Race 4). Uy had a 1.192-second margin over the second placer, Tyson Sy in Car No. 5, in the Race 3 Shell Pro Class. In Race 4 of the same class, he boasted a 4.317-second gap to first runner-up Angie King who was driving Car No. 12.

The racers weren’t the only ones to enjoy the track as Pilipinas Shell VIPs and guests were also treated to a taxi ride in the MSCC Miata Spec Series race cars. In case you are unaware, the race event is sponsored by Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation, GT Radial tires, and Rota Wheels.

Race 4 Winners

These cars are a showroom-stock Mazda MX-5 which is powered by a 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G engine with 182 horsepower and 205 Nm of torque. A 6-speed automatic transmission is used to send power exclusively to the rear wheels. Other upgrades include a custom stainless steel exhaust system, a Cusco racing roll cage, and an improved suspension.

Two down, two to go

The MSCC Miata Spec Series Round 3 is scheduled on October 29 which consists of Race 5 and Race 6. Meanwhile, Round 4 will be held on November 26 for Race 7 and Race 8. All races will be held at the CIS. Here is the list of podium finishers for Race 3 and Race 4:

Mazda MX-5

The Mazda MX-5 2023 Philippines is a 2-seater, rear-wheel-drive sports car. The soft-top version currently has five different variants for the Philippine market. These are the MX-5 SkyActiv-G 2.0 MT Black Top, the MX-5 2.0 MT Red Top, and the MX-5 2.0 AT, the Club Edition 2.0 MT, and the Club Edition 2.0 AT. Under the hood, the Mazda MX-5 uses a 2.0-liter inline-4 gasoline engine capable of making up to 181 horsepower and 205 Nm of torque. Power is then sent to its rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission, or a six-speed automatic gearbox. 

Size-wise, the MX-5 has a length of 3,915mm, a width of 1,735mm, and a height of 1,230mm. 

Currently, the Mazda MX-5 competes against the likes of the Toyota 86, Subaru BRZ, among others.
