The new Mazda CX-60 is scheduled to be unveiled next month, and will come out as the Japanese marque’s first-ever plug-in hybrid (PHEV) vehicle. To keep fans engaged for the upcoming launch, Mazda gave a glimpse of the interior of the said model, designed with the brand’s award-winning Kodo design language.
Interior of the Mazda CX-60
Inside, this Kodo aesthetic is combined with the Japanese concept of Ma, which is said to be the ‘calm and dignified beauty of empty space.’ That said, we could expect to see a neat and sophisticated-looking cabin without the distractions of a handful of interior design details.
The CX-60 debuts the ideas of Kaichô, the harmony which comes from mixing different materials and textures. Included in the cabin’s combined materials are maple wood, Japanese textiles, and chrome details as well as Nappa leather. Additionally, the instrument panel stitching has been designed with the ancient Japanese concept of Musubi.
Looking at the sole teaser photo, the dashboard gets a soft material with an emphasized stitching. It is a distinct layout as compared to the usual soft or hard plastics on most cars. Components such as aircon vents, control knobs, and infotainment screen are expected to be integrated subtly into the dash. Mazda said that the all-new CX-60 interior will be a totally new experience for drivers and passengers.
Mazda is evolving with the CX-60
Other features of the new Mazda model include a two-row seating configuration and a PHEV powertrain. Powering the vehicle is a 2.5-liter inline-4 gasoline engine with an electric motor, producing over 300 horsepower. More details are expected to be disclosed as the crossover SUV nears its launch.
The Mazda CX-60 PHEV will be unveiled on March 8, 2022. It is part of the brand’s Large Product Group which is joined by new Mazda models including the CX-70, CX-80, and CX-90. Both the CX-60 and CX-80 will mainly be marketed in the European market.
