Subaru, Mazda among 10 best car brands in US, study says

Five Japanese car brands have made it into the list.

A recent study from Consumer Reports has ranked a total of 32 brands present in the North American market. According to this study, Subaru and Mazda take the first and second rank out of the top 10 best brands.

The said publication has ranked these brands in terms of being the best for 2022, and it was based on the overall scores of a car brand’s entire model lineup. This also takes into consideration the said model’s safety ratings, reliability, customer satisfaction ratings. 

For Subaru, it received an overall score of 81 out of 100. As such, it displaced Mazda, which had the number one spot in the previous year’s best car brand study. This year, Mazda has moved down to second place with an overall score of 78 out of 100. Subaru also received a road-test score of 89 compared to Mazda’s 75. 

Of note, Mazda received the highest road-test score in last year’s study. This year though, the highest-ranking brand in terms of road-test score is Subaru.

Both Mazda and Subaru also have high predicted reliability ratings. For those unaware, predicted reliability refers to the most quantity of problems reported by Consumer Reports through their annual surveys. 

Other Japanese brands that made it in the top five spots include Honda and Lexus, in fourth place and fifth place respectively. The German brand, BMW, also went down from second place down to third place. Regardless, it still has a relatively high road-test score of 87. 

Other brands that made it to the top ten are Audi in sixth place, Porsche in seventh place, Mini in eighth place, Toyota in ninth place, and Infinity in 10th.

Despite focusing on the US market, folks here in the Philippines can take note of these as a point of reference when they eventually get a new ride.
