After getting leaked last year, Mazda confirmed the arrival of the new model called the CX-60. The new Mazda CX-60 is part of the Japanese marque’s Large Product Group which was introduced last year, a strategic plan that is also joined by the CX-70, CX-80, and CX-90.

According to Mazda, the upcoming CX-60 will be utilizing the car brand’s first plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain. It consists of a 2.5-liter straight-four gasoline engine with a performance-enhancing electric motor that can make over 300 horsepower. No transmission options have been disclosed just yet by the company.

The only detail shared with us by Mazda is that the CX-60 PHEV is the first of two new models that will be introduced in Europe under the Large Product Group, with the three-row seating CX-80 to follow. This will be worked on by the Japanese automaker during the next two years in the said market.

In addition, the new crossover SUV will demonstrate the company’s commitment to providing sustainable mobility solutions. With the model’s PHEV powertrain, customers can expect a smooth, efficient, and eco-friendly driving experience. It can also deliver a more powerful acceleration thanks to the use of an electric motor.

Mazda has no significant announcement regarding the Mazda CX-70 and CX-90 just yet. All we know for now is that these two new models under the Large Product Group will be marketed mainly in North America, with the CX-70 offering a two-row wide-body configuration and the CX-90 coming with a three-row wide body.

The Mazda CX-60 PHEV is slated to make its debut on March 8, 2022, which will be marketed as the flagship model in Mazda Europe’s SUV lineup. As of this writing, Mazda Philippines hasn’t put out a word just yet as to whether it will add the new two-row crossover to the local lineup or not. But since the SUV lineup expansion is said to be global, we can still hope to see the new products.
