It also received high marks for crash safety.

The US-based Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) has given the 2023 Kia EV6 a “superior” rating for its front crash prevention system. That particular evaluation involves both vehicle-to-vehicle crash prevention scenarios, as well as vehicle-to-pedestrian scenarios.

Kia’s all-electric model was also noted to come with suitably bright LED reflector headlamps. Paired with the aforementioned “superior” front crash prevention system, the IIHS thus bestowed the 2022 Top Safety Pick+ (TSP+) award to the EV6.

The 2023 Kia EV6 also earned a “good” rating for the IIHS driver-side small overlap front test, the passenger-side small overlap front test, roof strength test, side test, head restraint test, and the moderate overlap front test.

With having earned top ratings in all six IIHS crashworthiness tests, the said agency also gave the Kia EV6 the 2022 Top Safety Pick (TSP).

This marks the 10th Kia vehicle for the US market that got either of those distinctions. There are however, only two prior Kia vehicles that received the TSP+ award in particular. These are the 2022 Kia K5, and the Stinger.

According to Kia American Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President Steven Center, the brand is proud of the EV6’s achievements, and this win is “reflecting Kia’s commitment to innovative products that prioritize safety and performance.”

Speaking of performance, the 2023 Kia EV6’s Wind and GT-Line variants for the US market are capable of providing 310 miles (498 km) of range. The GT-Line is one of the more powerful in the EV6 lineup, as it can then produce 576 horsepower and 740 Nm of torque.

With that output, the EV6 GT-Line is capable of accelerating from 0-100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds. Paired with an adaptive suspension system, one can then assume that this Kia is quite a sporty EV.

As for the Philippine market, Kia will begin selling the EV6 by the start of 2023. This follows its first-ever local appearance at the 2022 Philippine International Show back in September.

That particular version that wowed the crowds at PIMS however, was a less powerful 226 horsepower version, which starts below Php 4 million. Exact pricing details are yet to be provided for the Philippine-spec EV6, and we also aren’t sure if the powerful EV6 GT-Line will be seeing a local release as well.
