Hyundai’s subcompact sedan bagged a significant accolade in the United States market. The Hyundai Accent got the best score in the small car category when it comes to the overall initial vehicle quality.
The Hyundai Accent's initial vehicle quality is considered one of the best
The 2021 J.D. Power U.S. Initial Quality Study (IQS) ranked the Accent as the best small car in terms of vehicle quality. The initial quality is measured by the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100) during the first 90 days of ownership, with a lower score reflecting higher quality.
To put things in perspective, the J.D. Power IQS is based on responses from more than 110,000 purchasers and lessees of new 2021 model-year vehicles. The said vehicles are surveyed on how good their quality is during the first 90 days of ownership. The IQS study is based on a 223-question battery organized into nine vehicle categories that include the following:
1. Infotainment
2. Features, controls, and displays
3. Exterior
4. Driving Assistance
5. Interior
6. Powertrain
7. Seats
8. Driving Experience
9. Climate
J.D. Power shared that 25 percent of all problems cited by new-vehicle owners are in the infotainment category. The study showed that the top issue lies in the wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity. Consumers revealed that the wireless phone connectivity is not consistent, and not that smooth.
Seamless phone integration plays a huge role in customer satisfaction
The study was conducted from February to July 2021. With that, the Hyundai Accent bested its rivals in the small car category while the Chevrolet Spark subcompact hatchback clinched the runner-up slot.
Hyundai Motor North America Chief Customer Officer Barry Ratzlaff said that the IQS study indicates that the Accent provides owners peace of mind. It also shows the car brand’s commitment to delivering quality vehicles to the U.S. market.
The Accent comes with distinctive taillights
“Accent ranked highest in its segment, providing owners peace of mind with their new vehicle purchase. Hyundai is committed to delivering exceptional quality vehicles to our customers. We strive to make sure that every customer is happy with the vehicle they purchase,” said Ratzlaff.
Aside from the Accent, other vehicles from the Hyundai Motor Group ranked highest in their respective categories. These vehicles include the following: Genesis G80, Kia Forte, Kia Sedona, Kia Soul, Kia Sportage, and Kia Telluride.
This makes Hyundai Motor Group the car company that bagged the most number of awards with seven. Toyota Motor Corporation sits at second with five while BMW secures the third spot with four.
