Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) launched a voluntary recall that involves select 11th-generation Civic units. The company said that more than 1,000 units are affected by the recall.

In detail, Honda Philippines noted that it is recalling 1,025 units of the 2022 Model Year (MY) Civic to replace the Electric Power Steering Gearbox. HCPI said that the Electric Power Steering Gearbox worm gear on 2022 Honda Civic units was improperly installed or manufactured. The grease applied on the worm gear was depleted, causing a stick slip leading to an unusual sound when turning the steering wheel.
Owners of the 2022 MY Civic are advised to bring their vehicles to any of the 37 authorized Honda Dealers and four Service Centers nationwide for the replacement of faulty parts. Of note, the replacement will be free of charge for affected vehicle owners and should only take three and a half hours to complete. HCPI shared that there are no accidents reported related to the Civic’s steering gearbox issue.

The company is now working to notify all the owners of the affected 2022 MY Civic units. HCPI noted that if any of the affected vehicles have been sold or disposed, the company will seek assistance to obtain the contact information of the new owners.
Owners may also verify if their vehicle is affected by the recall by encoding the 17-digit Chassis Number or Vehicle Identification Number in the recall information page on HCPI’s official website.
Inquiries can be made at any Honda Dealership or via HCPI’s hotline at (02) 8 857-7240. HCPI would like to apologize for the inconvenience and thank its customers for their continued support and cooperation.
