It follows the discontinuation of the Civic Type R.

Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) has dropped several models in recent times such as the Mobilio and Jazz. For the most part, the company makes adjustments to continue meeting the Filipino market demand. The latest model to exit the Philippine lineup is the brand’s entry into the midsize sedan market, the Accord.

When we reached out to HCPI, the company said that reason for the discontinuation is “vehicle lineup efficiency.” Looking at the automaker’s sales figures in 2021, the Accord sits at the bottom of HCPI’s model ranking with 27 units sold. That translates to about 0.21 percent of Honda’s sales in the country last year.

The Honda Accord is the largest offering in the company’s sedan lineup, positioned above the Civic compact sedan and City subcompact sedan. In terms of sales, the Honda City managed to dethrone Brio as the best-selling model in HCPI’s lineup with 3,957 units sold last 2021. Meanwhile, the Civic sold 1,354 units.

As the flagship sedan model, the Accord brought the best out of what the automaker can offer. It is one of the pioneers of the Honda Sensing, the brand’s advanced driver assistance system (ADAS). Powering this vehicle is a 1.5-liter VTEC turbocharged engine with 187 horsepower and 260 Nm of torque. It is connected to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) as standard.

With the discontinuation of the Honda Accord, the local midsize sedan market is carried on by models including the Toyota Camry and Mazda6. Over in its homeland Japan, the Accord will also be axed from the range alongside the Honda CR-V. It is said to be a “result of re-examining the Japanese market trends and customer needs.”

Philkotse review of the Honda Accord

Aside from the Honda Accord, HCPI recently removed the Civic Type R from its lineup. One can speculate that the reason for discontinuing the hot hatch is to make room for the next-gen FL5. But as of this writing, we still have to wait for an official announcement from the company.
