These will be of use especially nowadays.

If you own or regularly drive day by day, then you’ll know that fuel prices right now aren’t exactly affordable. The worst part of this is that it might go on for a while. Well, not unless the several factors causing this will simmer down. So to help you save on fuel costs, Ford Philippines shared with us some tips.

Lightweight is the way to go

For those of you who have kitted out your pickup trucks and SUVs with a bunch of accessories and parts to make them ready for adventures, you might want to temporarily take these off. We’re talking about aftermarket lights, roof racks, and oftentimes beefy spare tire, etc.

That’s because these add on more weight. More weight equals more work for your engine. And that of course may result in more consumer fuel.

Sensible driving

It goes without saying that putting the pedal to the also means inefficient use of precious diesel. To this end, Ford advises SUV and truck owners to stick to the local speed limit, and accelerate in a gentle, more controlled manner.

Tires matter

Make sure that your tires are inflated to manufacturer spec. If they’re underinflated, this increases rolling resistance, which means more fuel consumption. Then again, overinflating will cause you to have less grip and increased tire wear.

Lay-off the AC

Being as hot as it is right now, many will feel the need to use their vehicle’s air-conditioning system. Do consider though that according to Ford, running the air-conditioning system on your truck/SUV can increase fuel consumption by 25 percent.

Keeping the interior cool is necessary, but saving fuel is equally important nowadays

To this end, Ford suggests that you might want to lower your windows and turn off the air-conditioning system while driving at low speeds. This helps let out the hot air inside the vehicle, and so the air-conditioner won’t work so hard in keeping you cool.

On the flipside though, do leave your windows up while traveling at highway speeds. Opening the windows while going fast after all, can negatively affect your vehicle’s aerodynamics. In short, open windows means more drag, and more drag means more fuel costs on your part.

A fuel-efficient ride

Ford claims that the Everest-midsize SUV as well as the Ranger are fuel-efficient for turbodiesel models. But despite that, these do not compromise on performance at all. Even the bi-turbo diesel engine available to both the Everest and the Ranger is noted to be relatively thrifty on diesel.
