But did you know that one of the 64 female automotive journalists from 46 countries who formed the list is Filipino? Her name is Genevieve Tiu, a journalist and video producer at CarGuide.PH, and contributing writer to The Philippine STAR Wheels.

Gen has been immersed in the car scene largely through business, having grown up in a company that is involved in the car aftermarket industry. Of note, the STAR Wheels motoring section is published on one of the most popular broadsheets in the Philippines. CarGuide.PH meanwhile, is one of the leading authorities on car reviews and car news.

In a nutshell, her work in both STAR Wheels and CarGuide.PH provides deeper insights into the Philippine car industry. In both publications, her duties also help in updating would-be car buyers and car industry professionals on the latest trends and news.

As a recap, the finalists for the WWCOTY award are winners in their respective categories. The next-gen Ford Ranger is one of the finalists after winning the 4x4 Category. Jurors voted for the Ranger as it is said to be a reliable, stylish, and charismatic pickup truck that can conquer any terrain with ease.

Here is the list of other finalists:

  • Best Urban Model – Kia Niro
  • Best Family SUV – Jeep Avenger
  • Best Large Car: Citröen C5 X
  • Best Large SUV: Nissan X-Trail
  • Best Performance: Audi RS3

The purpose of the WWCOTY is not to recognize the most ideal car for women as this category just doesn’t exist. Instead, the organization aims to highlight the role of women in the car world. Voting is based on various characteristics such as safety, quality, price, design, ease of driving, and environmental footprint, and not whether a car is best driven by a woman.

Defending the WWCOTY crown is the Peugeot 308 which was chosen by only 56 motoring journalists from 40 countries last year. With the addition of eight female journalists this year including Gen, WWCOTY can give a voice to more women in the automotive industry.
