For added safety and convenience.

Undas is upon us and just like in the previous years, it will undoubtedly come with a heavier traffic flow. In preparation for this, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said that it is once again providing aid to motorists under the “Lakbay Alalay” program.

Are you one of the folks who will go on a long road trip this Undas season?

As reported by the said agency, several teams will be deployed to lend a hand to motorists, especially the ones traveling to their hometowns in the provinces. These teams will then be stationed in strategic locations around the country starting at 7:00 a.m. on October 28, 2022 until November 2, 2022.

DPWH Secretary Manual Bonoan stated that these Lakbay Alalay teams will work around the clock. They can provide emergency assistance, and are also tasked to ensure that traffic flow is optimal on major thoroughfares during the Undas period. Roads going to and from cemeteries will also be monitored and managed by the aforementioned teams.

Groups that are equipped with maintenance equipment were also formed, and they will be positioned on stand-by on “navy blue-colored tents along identified stations.” These are then put in charge of making sure that national roads continue to be free from obstructions and even potholes.

For added safety, Secretary Bonoan also directed the respective DPWH offices to put up proper safety signages and traffic advisories on currently ongoing construction works. Contractors working with the DPWH on road projects are likewise requested to do so as well.

On top of all of those measures, the DPWH also reported that this program will be implemented in coordination with several other government entities. These include local government units, the Land Transportation Office (LTO), as well as the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Are you the ones who are driving back to the provinces this Undas season? Well if you are, pay attention to the Lakbay Alalay stations because you’ll never know when you’ll need them.
