It has always been a protocol of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to deploy traffic enforcers when traffic volume is expected to soar. Now that this year's All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day are near, the government agency will be executing its "Oplan Undas 2022."
MMDA wants to ensure a safe and peaceful Undas
Under the Oplan Undas 2022, the MMDA will deploy 1,500 personnel in key locations in Metro Manila in anticipation of the two-day event. The personnel will be coming from the Traffic Discipline Office, Road Emergency Group, Metro Parkways Clearing Group, and Task Force Special Operations, among others.
"The MMDA is all set to undertake measures on traffic management, cleanup operations, road emergency, and public assistance, and clearing of road obstructions in preparation for Undas," said MMDA Acting Chairman Engr. Carlo Dimayuga III.
The upcoming Undas reflects a huge improvement over last year when the MMDA closed Metro Manila cemeteries to prevent the spread of COVID-19. To ensure a peaceful observance, the agency, led by Dimayuga, inspected several bus terminals in Cubao, Quezon City as thousands are expected to travel.
The inspections were led by Dimayuga
Sidewalk and road clearing groups are tasked to remove all forms of obstructions on major roads. The Road Emergency Group will set up public assistance centers at Metro Manila's five major cemeteries, while the Metrobase Command Center and Digital Media Group are tasked to monitor traffic situations and provide real-time traffic updates.
"No day off, no absent policy will be enforced among traffic enforcers for Undas," noted Dimayuga.
Aside from the MMDA, the NLEX Corporation announced that it will roll out the "Safe Trip Mo Sagot Ko" program to address the expected traffic increase this Undas. The toll road company said that it will deploy over 1,000 patrol crews, traffic marshals, incident response teams, and toll lane personnel on the NLEX (North Luzon Expressway) and SCTEX (Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway).
The Oplan Undas 2022 is underway
To note, the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program or number coding scheme will be suspended on October 31 and November 1.
