Is lining at the LTO a hassle for you? Then this upcoming DOTr program might help.

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the public and private sectors’ ability to provide services were adversely affected. Some even became unavailable, especially those that required falling in line and making multiple trips.

With the general community quarantine in place, many government agencies have resumed operations, but sitting in crowds and hanging around in public areas are still not advisable.

To address this, many public and private organizations have turned to the internet as a way to continue providing goods and services. One government agency doing just that is the Department of Transportation or DOTr.

Recently, the agency has started working on a means to deliver vehicle license plates as well as driver’s licenses straight to your home.

We really can't afford to go back to the old, crowded pre-COVID-19 LTO office setup

This was shared by DOTr Sec. Arthur Tugade on Thursday (May 28, 2020), just before announcing the agency’s plans with regards to the implementation of the general community quarantine in NCR and other parts of Luzon.

“Yung mga lisensya at plaka…yung renewal ng plaka at lisensy`a…hinde ka na ho pupunta…plano naming sa LTO offices, ide-deliver ho ‘yun ng courier,” Sec. Tugade said. (Those licenses and plates, those renewing plates and licenses, there’s no need to go to LTO offices, we’ll have those delivered by courier.)

According to Sec. Tugade, the delivery service not only provides added convenience for Filipinos, but it will also make it easier for their agency to validate the addresses indicated on a person’s driver’s license. He added that the agency is set to launch an online application for the issuance of driver’s licenses.

As to how DOTr will deliver thousands of license plates, we don't know yet

Both the license and plate delivery, as well as the online license application, are part of the DOTr’s digitization program. The agency has yet to release a timeline as to when these services will be ready.
