It can go from zero to 100 km/h in less than 4.5 seconds.

The market for all-electric pickup trucks is slowly gaining traction with models such as the GMC Hummer EV that boasts 35-inch wheels and around 1000 hp. Ford also has an entry for the said market with the Ford F-150 Lightning which is said to be the Blue Oval company’s step towards a zero-emission future.

With the two American electric pickup trucks in mind, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Chevrolet has something up its sleeves as well. Chevy introduced an all-electric Silverado full-size pickup truck which was developed on General Motor (GM)’s Ultium electric vehicle (EV) platform.

“Chevrolet has constantly revolutionized the Silverado franchise to make it the powerhouse it is today. The Ultium Platform is a critical enabler of next-level pickup truck performance for both fleet and retail customers, whether they are currently driving a Silverado or are considering a pickup for the first time,” said Chevrolet Vice President Steve Hill.

The Chevrolet Silverado EV is unmistakably a non-combustion engine vehicle with the absence of a grille. In comparison to the regular Silverado, the EV version comes with new daytime running lights (DRLs) that emphasize the proportions of the truck. Meanwhile, no significant changes have been made to the sides and rear except for the pronounced wheel fenders and revamped taillights.

There will be two variants for the upcoming all-electric truck, namely the Work Truck (WT) and the flagship RST. As the name suggests, the Silverado EV WT is designed for fleet customers to provide a sustainable transportation truck. It offers entrepreneurs a 3,629 kg of towing capacity and 544 kg of payload capacity.

The RST is the more feature-loaded option

On the other hand, the Silverado EV RST will be the more loaded option, featuring a four-wheel steering system, automatic adaptive air suspension that raises/lowers the truck by 50 mm, Multi-Flex Midgate for expanding the truck’s cargo capacity, Multi-Flex Tailgate with power release, and a 17-inch diagonal infotainment screen.

In terms of performance capabilities, the Silverado EV is expected to feature a 644-km range on a full charge. It can deliver up to 664 hp and 1,058 Nm of torque, allowing a zero to 100 km/h rating of around 4.5 seconds. The truck can be added with a 161 km of range in a 10-minute charge with its standard DC fast charging capabilities.
