The United Asia Automotive Group Inc., the official distributor of Chery products in the Philippine market, has reported an eight percent increase in sales for the first half of 2023.

In terms of raw numbers, that’s equivalent to a total of 1,668 units sold. To make it all sweeter, Chery actually defied the odds with its 18 percent growth. Contrast that to the Philippine automotive industry which actually saw a dip of 5 percent last month.
In June 2023 alone, the brand says that it sold an all-time high of 382 units. This beats its previous highest monthly sales record of 323 units, which it accomplished in May of this year. A huge chunk of its June sales figures comes from the Tiggo 5X which saw 247 units sold. Within the same period, the Tiggo 7 Pro saw 76 units sold and that’s equivalent to a 4 percent growth for the model compared to last May.
The brand also disclosed that the Tiggo 5X and Tiggo 8 Pro saw 834 and 271 units sold respectively. Those two models are the most significant contributors to the brand’s upward trajectory in the first six months of 2023. Those numbers then translate to a 0.8 percent increase in market share for the brand.
According to UAAGI chairman Rommen Sytin, they are delighted in seeing signs that the local market is now more trusting of Chery products. He further added that this upward sales momentum won’t be stopping soon, especially as the brand is poised to launch the new Tiggo 5X Hybrid on August 2023.

For those unaware, the Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid is a compact crossover that first appeared at the 2023 Manila International Auto Show. it improves over the Tiggo 5X with its hybrid powertrain which is comprised of a belt start motor and a 48-volt battery.
The first batch of Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrids is now in the country, as reported previously. And currently, one can even join a car-spotting raffle event dubbed the “Spot That Tiggo Hybrid” which serves to highlight the upcoming model. The said raffle will run until July 26, 2023, and plenty of exciting prizes are up for grabs.

The Chery Tiggo 5X Pro is a subcompact crossover. It has two variants for the local market: the Comfort and the Hybrid. These are priced at Php 940,000 and Php 1,140,000 respectively.
Size-wise, the Tiggo 5X Pro is 4,358mm long, 1,830mm wide, and 1,670mm in height. It also has a length of 2,630mm and a ground clearance of 196mm.
Under the hood, the Tiggo 5X Pro has two different engine options. The Comfort uses a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated mill making 114 horsepower and 141 Nm of torque. It then uses a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
The Hybrid trim meanwhile, gets a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine paired with a best-starter generator (BGS). At maximum, this electrified four-banger can produce 154 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque. It also uses a CVT.
Locally, the Tiggo 5X Pro competes against the Toyota Yaris Cross, Toyota Raize, Geely Coolray, Honda HR-V, GAC GS3, MG ZS, etc.
