2020 Feast of the Black Nazarene: Which roads will be closed?

If you aren’t living under a massive rock, then you might already know of the Feast of the Black Nazarene. It’s a pretty big event with thousands in attendance and it involves a very well attended procession so a couple of roads around Manila, Metro Manila might not be viable for motor vehicle traffic from January 8 to January 9.

"Very well attended" is an understatement

As such, the Manila Police District Traffic Enforcement Unit announced which roads will be closed to make way for the said event.

Note though that the closure of these said roads will depend on many factors but the said Catholic religious event itself is slated to start at 5:30 A.M. of Thursday. However, we can expect that some roads will already be closed as early as Wednesday evening.

Here’s the list of those aforementioned roads:

January 8, 2020 - 9 P.M. January 9, 2020 - 12:01 A.M.
  • North and Southbound lanes of Maria Orosa from TM Kalaw to P. Burgos
  • P. Burgos from Quezon Bridge, McArthur to Roxas Blvd.
  • North and southbound lane of Roxas Blvd. from Katigbak to U.N. Ave.
  • The southbound lane of Bonifacio Drive from Anda Circle to Katigbag Drive
  • Taft Avenue/Ayala to three bridges (jones, McArthur, and Quezon)
  • Taft Avenue’s northbound and southbound lanes from TM Kalaw until Ayala Boulevard
  • Parts of san Marcelino stretching from N.A. Lopez to U.N. Ave.
  • Parts of San Marcelino Street (From N.A Lopez to U.N. Ave.)
  • The stretch of Romualdez spanning U.N. Ave. to N.A. Lopez
  • The westbound lane of España Blvd. from P Campa to Lerma Street
  • The southbound lane of Quezon Boulevard from Fugoso Street to Quezon Bridge
  • Parts of P. Casal Street spanning Palanca to San Rafael

Philippine Red Cross: Ready and prepared to help

Thousands of staff and volunteers from the Philippine Red Cross will also be present at the Feast of the Traslacion of the Black Nazarene. Included in their preparations are 44 ambulances, a fire truck, a rescue truck, several first aid stations as well as welfare desks.

These will be stationed in strategic areas in order to meet the medical needs of those who will attend the event.
