The Australian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) has given the next-generation 2024 Mitsubishi Triton a five-star safety rating. The car safety organization bestowed this to the pickup truck model after putting it through a battery of stringent tests.
ANCAP safety & crash testing a Mitsubishi Triton
For adult occupant protection (AOP), ANCAP gave the Mitsubishi-made truck a rating of 86 percent, which is equivalent to 34.64 out of 40 points. It was noted that the Triton provided good protection to its driver and front passenger for the frontal offset, side impact, and oblique pole tests.
For the child occupant protection (COP) test, the truck fared even better with an 89 percent rating, or 44.03 out of 49 points. It provided good protection for the child-sized crash dummies, though it was noted that child restraints (child seats) shouldn’t be installed on the second-row center position as it lacked top tether anchors.

Concerning vulnerable road user protection, the Triton received 74 percent or a score of 47.01 out of 63. According to ANCAP, the truck had a mix of good and adequate protection to the head of a struck pedestrian. It did, however, return poor results when the pedestrian dummy struck its windshield pillars and the front edge of its hood.
On top of that, the Triton’s automatic emergency braking (AEB) system was also able to return good performance by being able to mitigate forward collisions with pedestrians and cyclists.
The lowest rating out of all the categories for the 2024 Triton went to the safety assist at 70 percent or 12.75 out of 18 points. This mainly concerned the truck’s advanced driver assist systems (ADAS) like its lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, and AEB, among others. The truck’s weak spot when it came to this category is its poor AEB collision mitigation during crossing scenarios (t-bone crashes).

Of note, the ANCAP crash test results for AOP and COP may likewise apply to all Philippine-spec 2024 Mitsubishi Triton variants. Then again, some aspects of ANCAP’s pedestrian protection tests (AEB detection for pedestrians) and the safety assist results may be limited to the Athlete 4x4 AT and the GLS 4x2 AT only. That’s because these are the only two locally available trims that come with an ADAS suite.
