World Car Awards released the top three finalists for its prestigious World Car of the Year award for 2023.
BMW iX1
Completing the top three list are the BMW X1/iX1, Hyundai Ioniq 6, and Kia Niro. These vehicles are voted on by a jury of 100 automotive journalists from 32 countries. Much like last year, the top three finalists are also available with an all-electric powertrain, with the Niro offered with a hybrid setup.
The BMW X1 and iX1 are the smallest active crossovers/SUVs in the German automaker’s lineup. Although both share the same platform, the X1 gets a combustion engine with choices for a hybrid powertrain, while the iX1 is powered by pure electricity.
Hyundai Ioniq 6
Meanwhile, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 is the brand’s latest electric vehicle (EV) offering following the Ioniq 5. Boasting a streamlined design that provides better range, the Korean EV is said to be capable of running up to 614 km on a single charge.
Lastly, the Kia Niro is available in a hybrid, plug-in hybrid, or all-electric form. With the Kia Niro EV, the electric compact crossover is fitted with a 64.8 kWh lithium battery and an electric motor that produces 201 horsepower and 255 Nm of torque. The maximum EV range is rated at 401 km.
Kia Niro
Hyundai is looking for a back-to-back win after bagging last year’s World Car of the Year award with the Ioniq 5.
