There are more reasons to look forward to the local launch of the all-new 2022 Honda Civic. Aside from being recognized as one of the vehicles that have a well-designed interior, the all-new Civic also gets a 5-star safety rating from the ASEAN New Car Assessment Program (NCAP).
2022 Honda Civic gets 5-star safety rating from ASEAN NCAP
The all-new Civic scored a 5-star rating under the more stringent ASEAN NCAP safety rating standard. As a review, the ASEAN NCAP released the revamped score sheet last May, and Motorcyclist Safety is added as a new category to get a 5-star safety rating. This will be effective until 2025.
With that, the new ASEAN NCAP safety rating standard now has four categories that include: Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), Child Occupant Protection (COP), Safety Assist (SA), and Motorcyclist Safety (MS). AOP makes up 40 percent of the whole safety rating score while COP, SA, and MS each get 20 percent.
The 2022 Honda Civic gets 29.28 out of the perfect score of 32 for the AOP, while it posted 46.72 out of 51 for the COP. On the other hand, the Japanese compact sedan scored 19.07 out of 21 for SA, and 8.32 out of 16 for the new MS category.
Based on the ASEAN NCAP’s report, the 2022 Honda Civic gets a weighted score of 83.47, which qualifies for a 5-star safety rating. The Civic comes with a standard of six airbags, and it is also equipped with the usual safety features one can expect from a modern car such as an anti-lock braking system, and electronic stability control.
The Thai-spec 2022 Civic is fitted with Honda Sensing safety suite, which includes auto high-beam headlight, lane keep assist, collision warning, adaptive cruise control, among others.
