It offers both great styling and exceptional safety.

The fourth-generation 2021 Kia Sorento looks way more modern in terms of exterior styling as compared to the current model offered in the local market. The fourth-generation Sorento made its global debut in September 2020. Speaking of which, Kia Philippines has yet to release any word as to when will the new Sorento arrive in the market.

So, while waiting for further announcements, Korean car brand Kia has given something to Sorento fans that will make them want the fourth-generation even more aside from its new styling. The 2021 Kia Sorento both bagged a five-star rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) and the Euro NCAP.

The 2021 Kia Sorento

The Sorento variant tested by ANCAP is the 2.2-liter turbo diesel AWD. It was awarded an 82 percent score in the adult occupant protection category, 89 percent score in the safety assist category (the highest since the introduction for stricter criteria in 2020), 85 percent in the child occupant protection, and 63 percent in the vulnerable road user protection.

However, ANCAP notes that the 2021 Sorento has weak protection of the driver’s chest and upper legs, as well as of a pedestrian’s pelvis and head. Nonetheless, the Sorento’s safety features such as eight airbags, driver attention monitoring, autonomous emergency braking system, rear cross-traffic alert, and blind-spot monitoring assist help it earn the five-star rating.

The midsize crossover was awarded an 82 percent score in the adult occupant protection category, 85 percent score in the child occupant protection category, 63 percent score in the pedestrian protection category, and 87 percent score in the safety assist category.

According to the Euro NCAP, part of the 2021 Sorento’s maximum rating is the integration of the Advanced High Strength Steel bodyshells. This helped the Sorento score higher than any vehicles in its respective segment.
