Modified Mitsubishi Xpander: Keeping it simple

Updated Nov 26, 2021 | Same topic: Tuning & Mods

Performance mods are tempting, but we don’t recommend it for this one.

The Mitsubishi Xpander is one of the most popular seven-seater MPVs in the market today. Relative to larger seven-seater models, it is affordable. Plus, it already looks great even in stock form.

Then again, some Xpander owners might want to give their rides something that will set them apart from the sea of Xpanders running on the road. So how to get your Mitsubishi Xpander modified to make it more unique? Well, here are some tips & advice.

Mitsubishi Xpander Modified: Some considerations

Before listing off our recommended Xpander mods, do note that this model was designed to be a sensible family-oriented vehicle. Sure, it does give off the impression that it’s sporty, but performance mods for this model are rare.

Some performance parts for this Mitsubishi model do exist, but we do not recommend installing these on the Xpander’s stock 1.5-liter inline-4 mill. If you know what you’re doing though, go right ahead.

In this case, the first thing you can do is chip tuning your Xpander. One of the brands that can provide this is Gan Tuning, whose chip can somewhat increase the vehicle’s torque output while sacrificing fuel efficiency.

Furthermore, we don’t actually recommend lowering the Xpander as that might ruin its usefulness as a daily driver and its ability to provide a comfortable ride. But if you want to, there are Xpander coilvers from brands like FV Suspension, HWL Suspension, among others.

And as for looks, we’ll leave that to you, but we do encourage you to stick to the more practical side of modding. In short, we’re keeping it simple this time.

Mitsubishi Xpander Modification: Wheels

While we’ll leave it up to you regarding Xpander modification for interior, we also like the idea of providing the MPV in question with aftermarket wheels.

For this though, we recommend sticking as close as possible to the model’s stock 16-inch or 15-inch wheels (Xpander GLX). As for brands, Rota has a good selection within these sizes. There’s also a lot of choices from RTX wheels. Even Black Rhino has wheels that fit the Xpander, if you want something to make your MPV more tough-looking.

Mitsubishi Xpander Modified: Practical mods and accessories

If you want to improve your Xpander’s ability to take on cargo, then you’d want some roof rails. These are available from numerous car parts shops in the country. Be careful though, some of them might require drilling, though most do not.

Of note, the Xpander save for the Xpander Cross was not designed from the get-go with a load bearing roof. So even if you did manage to tack on a roof rail on your unit, its weight capacity might not be on par with vehicles that come stock with roof rails.

Then again, an Xpander with roof rails can provide space for light cargo like luggage, a tent, or a bicycle or two.

Also, some of you might be considering a carrier to protect said luggage. Like roof rails, there are numerous brands that provide this for the Xpander. Then again, you’ll have to declare the carrier to the Land Transportation Office

Mitsubishi Xpander: Official accessories

Apart from those mentioned already, Mitsubishi Philippines also offers a couple of official accessories for the Xpander.

These include more practical things like a luggage mat (Php 2,883), and a side window visor (Php 6,550). Most however, are geared towards appearance. There’s the official Mitsubishi Xpander side air dam (Php 19,677), a muffler cutter (Php 1,607), a rear air dam (Php 13,482), front air dam (Php 18,064), an engine hood emblem (Php 3,996), among others.

To conclude, those are the mods we recommend for the Mitsubishi Xpander. They might not be flashy nor do they make your MPV faster, but these can provide a bit more character to your ride. The best part is many of these are easy to install, and they won’t affect your Xpander’s reliability.
